Andy Rourke, best known for being the bassist of British band The Smiths, has passed away aged 59, from pancreatic cancer. The passing was announced this morning from former band member Johnny Marr. Marr, renounced as one of the best guitarists in music, wrote in a tweet: "Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans." John, who has been a fan of The Smiths since the beginning of the band’s career, shared how ‘awful’ and ‘tragic’ the passing of the bassist was. Others shared the first time they discovered The Smiths and Rourke’s incredible talent. But it’s not just those who grew up listening and attending concerts of The Smiths that are devastated. Rourke’s passing has beautifully highlighted how, despite the band breaking up in 1987, The Smiths continues to be loved by all ages. The use of The Smiths’ music in pop culture, from Ferris Buller’s Day Off to (500) Days of Summer means the band is perpetually being discovered by younger audiences. As well as those who knew of the band from growing up listening to their parent’s music, as some shared. Teenagers took to TikTok to mourn the loss of Rourke in the same way that fans in their 50s and 60s were. A photo of Elon Musk kissing a female humanoid robot has gone viral, but everything is not as it seems. Billionaire Musk is known for being at the forefront of modern technology, with his ventures including industries such as space travel and electric vehicles. Following new footage that reveals Tesla’s integrated robot Optimus can walk, navigate and pick things up, AI-generated images of Musk kissing female-looking humanoids have gone viral. They emerged alongside a tweet by Twitter user Daniel Marven, in which he claimed the Tesla and Twitter CEO is designing a robot “that has been manufactured specifically designed with artificial intelligence with the personality and the characteristics of the female that he dreams of”. Unlike the real Tesla robots, the AI-generated ones have distinctive human-like facial features. The images possess some of the current tell-tale signs that an image has been created by AI – for example, the hand on one of the robots possess too many fingers, while the hands on other robots in the images are distorted. Some of the viral images appear to have been created by the same user who was behind the viral image of Pope Francis wearing a puffer jacket, Pablo Xavier. On Instagram, one user joked: “Elon finally found his soulmate(s).” Someone on Twitter said: “iRobot is about to be reality.” While the images are fake, many are impressed with the advancements that Tesla has made with its real robot, Optimus. The Sunday Times Rich List has just dropped and some big names have made the cut. The annual survey estimates the wealthiest people in the UK and this year it features the King, the Prime Minister, and a handful of pop stars, as well as many business people you probably haven't heard of. It found there are 171 billionaires in the UK — down from 177 in 2022 and that many people's fortunes have decreased. Sir Richard Branson’s fortune has shrunk by 42.6 per cent to £2.41 billion, for instance. But that is still a lot of money, so we won't cry him a river. James Dyson Coming in at number five on the list, the hoover and airwrap magnate has a wealth of £23bn. A decent wedge. Mike Ashley The SportsDirect entrepreneur came 49th on the list. Richard Branson As said, he's lost a bit of money but he is still the 77th richest individual in the UK. Lord Sugar Best known for starring in The Apprentice, the businessman's £1.074bn coffers landed him spot number 165 this year. Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell They have a pretty decent £950m. A pretty penny (lane). JK Rowling The controversial Harry Potter writer has magicked herself up £875m thanks to her writing talent. King Charles III With £600m, he comes in at 263 on the list. The Warburton Family There must be a reason why the saying "the best thing since sliced bread" is so well-known given sliced bread champions the Warburton family have £586m. Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murphy And sliced bread is clearly better than politics given the PM and his wife have £529m, down £201m from the previous year. Lady Gaga’s latest TikTok has caused debate amongst fans over the singer’s appearance. Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, posted a TikTok on her makeup company Haus Labs’ page, showing off new lipsticks. But it’s not the lipsticks that have people talking. The singer and actress does look slightly different, but it’s hard to pinpoint what the change is. But fans have left comments with their own theories. Some think she’s gotten a body double to stand in for her, other joke that it’s Miley Cyrus pretending to be Gaga. Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny have sparked dating rumours after being photographed together at different events - but fans have noted the Puerto Rican rapper was absent from the model's recent Instagram post. The pair were recently spotted together on May 12 at the Western Conference Semifinal Playoff basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors at Crypto.com Arena. In the snaps, Jenner and Bad Bunny could be seen chatting to each other, with one photo in particular becoming a mansplaining meme as the Grammy Award winner leaned over to tell the model and reality TV star something while she did her best to listen. There was also a photo of Jenner at the basketball game with her friend Renell Medrano, as they both posed giving the camera the middle finger - but no sign of Bad Bunny who was sat on the other side of her. Bad Bunny fans were quick to comment how the rapper - whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - didn't feature in any pictures that were posted by Jenner, and urged her to "post him." One person asked: "Where are the pictures with Beniittooo." "Y el conejo?," another person asked, which according to Instagram in English translates to "And the rabbit?" Fans of Taylor Swift have written an open letter to the pop star asking her to distance herself from The 1975 frontman Matty Healy. Titled #SpeakUpNow, a play on Swift’s album Speak Now, set to be re-released July 7th, has sparked conversation from both sides on Twitter. The letter, first posted by account @SpeakUpNow_13, expressed ‘disappointment’ with Swift’s recent sightings with Healy. Healy has been spotted at multiple of Taylor’s shows as she embarks on a US tour, igniting dating rumours after Swift’s recent split from her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. They write: ‘your voice holds tremendous power and right now your silence is palpable,’ adding, ‘we urge you to reflect on the impact of your own and your associates’ behaviour.’ The original account has since be deleted following criticising from fans and others accusing the user of having a ‘parasocial relationship’ with the singer. A term often used to describe the relationship between fans and celebrities, who have no idea the fan exists. Some quoted previous statements made by Swift about having people ask invasive questions surrounding her personal life and accused the fan of crossing boundaries. Others said those sharing the hashtag are ‘chronically online’. Others rose to the defence of the letter, saying you’re allowed to hold someone accountable. One Taylor Swift fan account wrote it’s disappointing to see ‘a lot of hate and comments ridiculing this,’ adding, ‘it’s okay to love an artist and speak up when you are disappointed or disagree with them.’ Some fans announced they had cancelled their pre-orders of Swift’s latest re-release, saying they don’t feel comfortable giving her money whilst she supports Healy and remains silent on his controversies. People of colour have shared the hurt they feel from Swift’s association with Healy, who made comments on a podcast earlier in the year about watching porn that humiliated and dehumanised black women. Khloe Kardashian has taken to Instagram to hilariously address the mix-up between her and sister, Kourtney Kardashian. Earlier this week, the reality started her string of stories writing: "Hey, so for those who can't tell me and @kourtneykardash apart this is for you." "I totally understand how we look like identical twins so this might be challenging for some but hopefully this presentation will help," she continued. "Especially to the people that were screaming 'Kourtney, Kourtney' as I walked by... This one's got you." It comes after Kourtney was called "Khloe" at her Las Vegas wedding ceremony with Travis Barker. An Elvis impersonator, who officiated the day, mistakenly referred to her as her younger sister. Recently, reporters and fans called Khloe "Kourtney" outside the Ritz-Carlton in New York. The Sidemen's Ethan Payne (also known as Behzinga) is being praised for documenting his 'tummy tuck' journey on social media. After losing over 30kg in weight, the influencer admitted having loose skin left over had knocked his confidence, and he's made the decision to undergo surgery to remove it, and ultimately, improve his mental health. "I'll be leaving my old self behind", he candidly told fans in a YouTube video. The Magic Mike actor made a video to celebrate her hitting 24 million followers, dancing around a hotel room with friends, when her dressing gown made an unfortunate slip. But instead of being embarrassed and demanding the video be erased, she merely blurred out her lady bits and posted it anyway. “24 million followers, 24 million reasons to smile. Elon Musk, billionaire and self-confessed 'power-mage' (albeit decent with a sword and katana), might've put his foot in it once more following his comments regarding work-from-home; especially when considering his prior tweeting about what he does in his 'spare time'. Specifically, how can someone who says they work 20-hour days, or 17-hour days, also complete an intensive video game- within months of release? Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Elon Musk has performed a number of interviews recently, and it seems like he's been given an easy ride. People are starting to pick up on the fact that nobody has asked him about Elden Ring: People want Elon Musk to be asked about Elden Ring. Well, Indy100 are more than happy to help - 'Timothy Faust'. In an interview segment with CNBC titled Tesla CEO Elon Musk: ‘The laptop class is living in la-la land’ over work-from-home, Musk declared that remote working is a 'moral issue'. He believes that because a working class commutes to working locations to build cars or cook food - that other workers should also commute. Musk has said before that he works 20 hours a day. He says in the above interview that he sleeps six hours a day. He has routinely said he commits to 80-100 hour workweeks. During his early days at Twitter, he said he was working 24/7. Musk works a lot. Based on the latest interview where he says he sleeps six hours a day, Musk has around 18 hours per day to either work or not work. There are 168 hours in a week. Based on the 80-100 hour workweek comments, Elon, at maximum, spends 60 per cent (14 hours a day) of his time working, leaving nine hours for sleep and recreation. If he sleeps six hours, he has three or four hours for everything else - including Elden Ring. He admitted that on May 23rd that the game was the 'most beautiful art he had ever seen.' Elon, I cannot disagree. As someone who spammed Rivers of Blood to murder four end-game bosses in an hour with a raging headache following weeks of failure, Elden Ring to me is also art. However, when he is saying he has experienced Elden Ring in its entirety, and that his workweek is so intense, there's a contradiction. My playtime with Elden Ring is around 120 hours. I played it damn near every day in marathon stints with a few week-long pauses when my own rapid deaths in a playthrough were mangling my mind. I finished the game in June. I started it in February. It took me - apparently - until early March to beat the first three bosses in my list of achievements on Xbox - Leonine Misbegotten, Margit the Fell Omen and Shardbearer Godrick. I am somewhat awful at the game. I beat the game. I do wish I recorded my pre-patch decimation of Radahn, though. I won't go into the description of Musk's build, but it's terrible. Kotaku went in on it. My build was pretty cheesy and I could bonk enemies on the head and kill them in seconds. If I took 120 hours to experience close to everything in Elden Ring, there's no way Elon completed it quicker with the build that had him 'fat rolling' all over the place. My experience has me completing Elden Ring in 100 days - give or take. That's 1.2 hours per day. I do not work the number of hours a day that Elon says he does. Assuming Elon completed Elden Ring in the same time as I did, he'd spent around 25 percent of his non-working time playing Elden Ring until completion. That's based on him having around four hours to himself without working or sleeping. The only figure we've got to use for Elon's completion date is the day he posted 'Elden Ring experienced in its entirety most beautiful art he had ever seen' - May 24th 2022. This is 87 days after Elden Ring's US release on February 25th. Assuming Elon completed the game on May 24th, and assuming he started on February 25th, that gives him 348 non-working hours in the 87 days between release and completion. If he spent 120 hours on Elden Ring (like my completion time) alone, a third of his non-working time between February and May was spent playing Elden Ring. For a person as busy as Elon appears to be, I feel like it's also fairly implausible to suggest a duel business owner (at the time) and parent who says they work that much could spend a third of their non-working time playing a video game. There are 8760 hours in a year. Elon sleeps for 2190 hours (25 percent of his time), he works for 5082 hours (58 percent of his time with two days off accounted for) and has around 1489 hours spare (17 percent of his time.) Obviously, this is all estimation and approximation - Musk may not be entirely serious when he says what he says, and every day is probably going to differ. Alas. That means that he spent 8 percent of his spare time last year playing Elden Ring. That in itself is not specifically odd, but by Elon's own admission, he has less time than everyone else as he is so busy. A man who had so little time spent so much of it gaming. That is pure dedication or exaggeration. To take the words, well, word-for-word, it'd seem obvious that Musk is exaggerating, or twisting words to make a more brutal point than needed. At the same time, it feels odd to say that in an interview where you're hitting WFH employees over the head - you'd want to be taken seriously, right? He was asked off the cuff. He replied off the top of his head. There's no problem, except that the context of Musk's words in the interview relates to dismissing remote working and the 'laptop class'. Where did Elon actually find the time to play Elden Ring? Was becoming Elden Lord classed as work in his mind (probably, and fair enough). The only way to test this is to get a brave Twitter/Tesla/SpaceX employee to say that playing Elden Ring on company time counts as 'work'. Then we'll see what happens. As for Elon and remote working, let those without sin cast the stones, and perhaps let your workers breathe a little. That's the real moral issue. Have your say in our news democracy.
