Ukraine has reportedly developed a real-life “invisibility cloak” that can hide soldiers from Russian thermal cameras thanks to its unique properties that block heat signature radiation. The images show two men standing next to each other, with a third, on the left, barely visible at all thanks to the new cloak. Mykhailo Fedorov, minister of digital transformation of Ukraine, shared the footage on Wednesday 4 October. “Have you ever read about invisibility cloaks in fairy tales? Mikel Arteta defended his decision to play Bukayo Saka as the Arsenal winger limped out of their Champions League defeat to Lens. The Gunners had taken the lead through Gabriel Jesus but Adrien Thomasson levelled following a David Raya error before Saka hobbled out of the game. A tourist has shown off bedbug bites all over his arm after renting an Airbnb in Paris. The capital of France has been engulfed by an infestation of bedbugs in recent weeks, with authorities warning “no-one is safe”. Footage of the insects has horrified social media users, with some seen standing on the Parisian metro instead of sitting on the fabric seats, or posting warnings about the critters swarming all over their Airbnb rentals. Leaders of Murcia’s city and region’s political institutions have held a moment’s silence and applause in honour of the victims of Sunday’s disco blaze. A total of 13 people were killed as a consequence of the fire and 24 more were injured. Firefighters and police continued to search the damaged premises for clues as to how the fire started in Murcia, a university city in southeastern Spain. The blaze started in a nightclub around 6am on Sunday 1 October and spread to two others nearby, Spanish state news agency EFE said. All the bodies were found in the first nightclub. The four towers on Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia have been completed more than 140 years after the first stone was laid. Each represents one of the four evangelists, and the final sculptural pieces have now been set in place. Matthew is an angel and John an eagle joining Mark and Luke, in the forms of a lion and an ox. A celebratory Mass will be held once the scaffolding on the church is removed, revealing Antonio Gaudi’s masterpiece. With the competition of the sculptures, work will now focus on the final and tallest tower, dedicated to Jesus. Construction on the church is expected to be finished by 2026. At least one civilian was injured during the Russian bombardment of a residential area in Kostyantynivka, Ukraine, officials said. Firefighters extinguished fires at the scene on Wednesday 27 September and pulled down the remains of a damaged roof as the house’s owner, Olena Kononenko, looked on. Liudmila Ivanchuk, another resident, said the windows shattered during the bombardment and that she was taken to hospital for stitches. “Everything was falling on me. The door was stuck. A two-year-old square-lipped male rhinoceros born at a zoo in the Netherlands departed for his new home in Lithuania on Tuesday (26 September). Royal Burgers’ Zoo, in the Dutch city of Arnhem, contributes to the European population management program of breeding the square-lipped rhinos within the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria. On the day of his big move, the young animal was sedated by vets before making his way into a “transport box” specially made for the journey. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who both face human trafficking charges in Romania, appeared at a Bucharest court on Tuesday (26 September). Footage showed the brothers answering questions from a reporter as they made their way to court. The hearing was to ask that the current judicial measures imposed on them be lifted, alongside measures that saw a number of their assets seized during investigations. The court postponed making a decision on the judicial measures until this Thursday and set a new date to discuss the asset seizures for early November. The Tate brothers are charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. They deny the charges against them. Drone footage shows the extent of destruction in the village of Klishchiivka in eastern Ukraine after months of fierce fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s military said it seized Klishchiivka from Russian troops on 17 September. The village is about 10km (6 miles) south of the Russian-controlled town of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. Retaking Klishchiivka is considered tactically important, allowing Ukrainian forces to further extend their gains around Bakhmut. The commanding heights of the village offer a view into Bakhmut and could open up new opportunities for Ukrainian forces to encircle the town. Read More

Jessica Hawkins has become the first woman in almost five years to test a Formula 1 car, completing 26 laps of the Hungaroring in Budapest for Aston Martin last Thursday. The former W Series racer, 28, alternated in the AMR21 car with test and reserve driver Felipe Drugovich. Hawkins, a former British Karting Champion, joined the Aston Martin F1 Team in 2021 as Driver Ambassador and her role within the team has since expanded. Before Hawkins, the most recent woman to test an F1 car was Colombia’s Tatiana Calderon with Sauber - now Alfa Romeo - at the Hermanos Rodriguez track in Mexico City in October 2018.
