Explosions from a Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian region of Odesa were captured from a ferry on the Danube River. Romanian Border Police said in a statement on Tuesday 26 September that traffic through the Danube crossing in Isaccea, Tulcea County, has been closed due to the attacks on the Ukrainian side. A video posted online by a person who was crossing the river showed explosions in Ukraine that could be seen from across the border. The statement from Romanian Border Police said that traffic was being redirected through Galati, a town situated on the Danube upstream from Isaccea.

Drone footage shows Serbian gunmen storm Orthodox monastery in Kosovo
The Kosovar government has released drone video showing a group of Serbian gunmen storming an Orthodox monastery in Kosovo on Sunday, 24 September. Around 30 masked men fled to the monastery after opening fire on police near the village of Banjska in northern Kosovo, killing one officer and injuring another. The stand-off ended when most of the assailants escaped on foot under cover of darkness on Sunday evening. Three of the gunmen were shot and killed by Kosovar police.

British troops train Ukrainian soldiers in mine disposal skills
British Royal Engineers sappers have given training to Ukrainian soldiers to help them disable mines, munitions and other explosive devices that are being used in the war in Ukraine. Mines present one of the biggest obstacles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces as they seek to take back occupied land from Russia. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said: “Putin’s illegal invasion has left Ukraine’s fields and towns covered in deadly landmines and unexploded munitions, which presents an immediate danger to its citizens now and for years to come. “The Royal Engineers are using their world-leading experience to train Ukraine’s bomb disposal experts, who can pass on these lifesaving skills to their own recruits and ensure a safer future for all Ukrainians.”

Months-old lion cub taken to safety after being found wandering road alone
A months-old lion cub was taken to a zoo in northern Serbia on Thursday (21 September) after it was found wandering on a local road. The female cub was found on the outskirts of Subotica, a town near the border with Hungary, malnourished and weak. Local media said that a Subotica resident spotted the cub on the road and called the police, who then took it to the zoo. Reports also said that the cub was friendly and wasn’t afraid of people. A police officer and local residents could be seen in other videos and photos caressing the cub. Volodymyr Zelensky met with Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday 21 September. The president of Ukraine arrived alongside First Lady Olena Zelenska and was seen shaking hands with Mr Biden and Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States. Mr Zelensky, who earlier visited Capitol Hill and the Pentagon, capped his visit to Washington with an Oval Office meeting. He said he felt “trust” between himself and top American officials and expressed gratitude for the defence support that has allowed his armed forces to “combat Russian terror”. Volodymyr Zelensky said he had a “very strong dialogue” with senators after his behind-closed-doors meeting on Capitol Hill on Thursday 21 September. The president of Ukraine made a trip to Washington DC this week to shore up US support for his nation. During his visit, Mr Zelensky met with the entire Senate, but only a select few House leaders attended a meeting on the other side of Capitol Hill. “We spoke about support, about the situation on the battlefield, about our class. I can’t share with you all the details, but I think we had a very strong dialogue with senators,” he told reporters.

A prankster wearing a transparent bin bag and shower cap made his way down the catwalk at New York Fashion Week before being bundled away by security. The man can be seen checking over his shoulder before strutting his stuff in front of the audience - who appeared not to notice he was an intruder. YouTuber Fred Beyer uploaded footage of the incident - which happened earlier this month - to his channel on 13 September. He walked the catwalk during a fashion show hosted by Creators Inc, an agency for social media influencers.

Flames rage from destroyed warehouse after Russian drone strike on Lviv
A Russian drone attack over the city of Lviv, Ukraine, early on Tuesday 19 September heavily damaged a warehouse facility and injured a 26-year-old man, according to the regional governor. Maksym Kozytsky reported that 15 out of 18 drones were intercepted. Footage from the ground shows flames raging from a warehouse, as firefighters battle to control the blaze. The state emergency service said the fire, caused by the drone attack, has reached 9,450 square meters. Ukrainian troops move through destroyed Donetsk settlement as Kyiv announces recapture
Ukraine released footage on Saturday (16 September) of troops moving through a war-ravaged settlement in the Donetsk Oblast after Kyiv announced its recapture. Video published by Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade showed troops moving through rubble in Andriivka, 6 miles (10km) south of the Russian-occupied city of Bakhmut after three months of intense fighting. The clip also shows soldiers taking cover behind a broken wall amid mortar fire. It comes after Ukraine announced a tactical victory in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, taking back the village of Robotyne in late August.
