England defender Lucy Bronze said the Lionesses are feeling “empowered” ahead of their World Cup opener after releasing a statement addressing the players’ ongoing row with the Football Association over bonus payments and other commercial concerns. In their statement on Tuesday, the Lionesses said they will pause discussions with the FA on performance-related bonuses until after the Women’s World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the Saudi Pro League “is better” than Major League Soccer, appearing to take a swipe at rival Lionel Messi following his transfer to Inter Miami. The Portuguese forward, 38, also confirmed he has no plans to play in the United States or return to Europe. “The Saudi league is better than MLS,” Ronaldo said, after playing the first half of Al Nassr’s 5-0 preseason friendly defeat to La Liga side Celta Vigo. “Now all the players are coming here. In one year, more top players will come to Saudi Arabia.”

Partial road traffic opened on one lane of the Crimean bridge late on Monday (17 July), Russia’s deputy prime minister, Marat Khusnullin, confirmed. Fizzy drink brand Sprite has created the world's first vending machine that reacts in real-time to things that get people hot and bothered. The vending machine at London King's Cross station uses departure boards, social media, local news, station footfall and weather data to detect the annoyances of commuters - and it also drops free Sprite to cool them off. While the King's Cross machine is a prototype, the brand is rolling out more of the machines across Europe this summer.

Liverpool's Darwin Núñez will wear the No. 9 shirt for the club during the 2023-24 season. The Uruguayan striker opted for the iconic number that was left vacant after the departure of Roberto Firmino, who left the Premier League club after his contract expired earlier this summer. The club has announced that fans who have already purchased new 2023-24 home and away jerseys printed with the striker's name and his previous number - 27 - will be personally reimbursed by Núñez with a like-for-like exchange for a shirt with his new number.
