How to take part in FaZe Rug's 1UP candy challenge
American YouTuber FaZe Rug has released his own brand of candy designed to create a user experience for the consumer. FaZe, whose real name is Brian Awadis, launched 1UP Candy – a product designed to appeal to his mainly Gen Z audience – as an experience-driven sweet treat. The 26-year-old YouTuber has 23 million subscribers and has used his following to help launch the first product under the 1UP name. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The initial product is a sour gummy marketed as the Sour Gummy Challenge as it comes alongside a dare that can win the user money if they complete it. How do you take part in the challenge? To successfully complete it, challengers have to put three sour gummies in their mouths and suck on them for thirty seconds while keeping a straight face the entire time. If they are able to complete it and provide evidence in the form of a TikTok or Instagram post, hashtagged #1UPsourchallenge and accompanied with the Cash App information, users can be in with a chance of winning cash prizes. I Created the Worlds Sourest Candy - SOUR CHALLENGE www.youtube.com Rug explained: “When I was approached to fully engage in developing a new candy that was designed to be fun and social, I jumped all over the opportunity.” He continued: “Anyone who knows me knows I love candy, and I love challenging my family, friends and fans to experience it with me.” In a YouTube video launch, Rug tested the challenge on his friends and family, with two out of three failing and having to use the neutraliser to get rid of the sour taste from their mouths. It is recommended by the company that the challenge is avoided by people who have soft teeth, sensitive gums or gastrointestinal disorders. The co-founder of 1UP, Matt Weiss, said: “Launching 1UP Candy with an experiential sour candy challenge is the perfect way for Rug to reach through the screen — and even create connections among his viewers as they experience the candy together via social media.” Have your say in our news democracy. What does 'mother is mothering' mean? The Taylor Swift meme explained
Taylor Swift is known for keeping tabs on fans along with their online discourse, and at a recent concert shouted out a meme used by Swifties. At her show in Philadelphia, Swift cracked a Mother's Day joke (with the holiday recently taking place on Sunday) and made an amusing internet reference in the process. “Something that you guys are always saying online is ‘mother is mothering!’ Which I think you mean in a totally different context than Mother’s Day…" she said while sat at her piano as part of the 'Folklore' era of the show. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter This acknowledgement was much to the amusement of Swifties. Here is a breakdown of how the "mother is mothering," became a TS meme. The term "mothering," is a slang term used by the LGBTQ+ community, as an alternative to other expressions such as "slay" and "yass queen." But it is also used by fans to describe their favourite artist as "mother." Flashback to 2014, and according to Know Your Meme, the earliest usage of the expression came from a tweet by @Iikedaylight, a Taylor Swift fan account. The tweet is "I love when my mother is mothering," and was posted alongside a photo selfie between American Actress Aisha Tyler and Taylor. Over the years the term "mother is mothering" has been used to describe various celebrities from Adele, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Rihanna, Beyoncé and Rina Sawayama. Since Swift kicked off her Eras Tour back in March, Swifties have flooded social media with mothering meme using footage they have taken when attending one of her shows. @zachtalbot ate and left literally NO crumbs, b*tch! #erastour #arlingtonerastour #swifttok #swifte #swifties #taylorswift #taylornation @bethany_pendleton13 MOTHER IS MOTHERING 🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼 cr: jasmine thompson #taylorswift #swifttok #erastourtaylorswift #tstherastour #swiftie #taylorsversion #greenscreen #theerastour #TSmidnighTS #phillytstheerastour #taylornation #speaknowtaylorsversion @folk.lcre mother knows shes mothering #taylorswift #taylorswiftedit #taylorswifterastour #edit Elsewhere, Taylor Swift fan reveals what singer did after stopping security from harassing them. Jet setters are swapping self-indulgence for self-care, study shows
There appears to be a cultural shift among jet setters, as people switch out self-indulgence for self-care. Traditionally, travelling tends to be the time to unwind and let loose. Now, new research from the Hilton revealed that 7 in 10 are doing so by keeping healthy habits at the forefront of their minds. A further 50 per cent of jet setters feel inspired by their wanderlust and use it to kickstart a new self-care routine. While it's easy to turn a blind eye to exercise while away, it turns out those who do make a conscious choice to work out spend almost an hour a day doing so. Walking and exploring take the top spot for Brits' favourite healthy habit on holiday, shortly followed by reading, general exercise and swimming. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter That said, leading hotel provider Hilton have listened to the people. The chain is helping travellers continue their healthy habits while away from home by partnering up with Peloton. Those staying at Hilton hotels across the UK, Germany, Canada and Puerto Rico can seamlessly integrate wellness into their travels with access to its connected fitness content. Hilton Honours members will also be gifted a 90-day free trial of the Peloton App, packed with thousands of streamed classes. While it can be challenging to remain motivated on holiday, popular Peloton instructor Bradley Rose has you covered, with five useful tips shared with Hilton: Make a plan You know the phrase: fail to prepare, prepare to fail. And staying motivated on holiday is made that much easier if you make a plan before you arrive. If you already have a rough itinerary for the trip, think about when you can build in your exercise. Depending on where I am I’ll adapt my training accordingly. Maybe wake up an hour earlier than everyone else to fit in some self-care or spend a little less time getting ready for dinner so you can enjoy a swim in the hotel pool. Choose your location carefully When planning your trip, try to visit a location with ample activity-based things to do, or choose a hotel that has a quality hotel gym and the equipment you need to make it easy to work out. Hilton has recently partnered with Peloton to bring Peloton Bikes into all hotels in the UK, making it straightforward to take your routine with you when travelling. Build it into your day Think about staying active as something to look forward to rather than a chore - in order to do this, try and build it into the activities you’re already doing. Going on an all-day excursion in the mountains? See if there’s anywhere you can hike. Open-top bus tour of the city? Scrap it and opt for a walking tour instead. Part of going to a new city or area is getting out and about and I like to go for a run or a walk. It’s enjoyable because you get to see things from a different vantage point and you’re staying active at the same time. Something short, something accessible just to move the body when I’m on holiday is a great release for me mentally and physically. Connect with others If you’re on holiday with your family, a friend or a partner, get them to join you for a workout, which always makes everything way more fun. If you can’t rope anyone in, think about a guided workout whether that’s using a Peloton Bike or App to connect with the global community - having someone there virtually to guide you or do the workout with you is great for motivation, but also means you don’t have to think about your workout structure or timings. Be flexible When I’m travelling, whether it’s for a holiday or work, the first thing I’m focussed on is not being too hard on myself. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to keep up your full workout routine on holiday, so give yourself grace and remember to set realistic goals of what you can achieve each day. If you only meet 50% of your normal exercise routine - that’s a success, a little goes a long way even if it’s just ten or twenty minutes. Amanda Al-Masri, Vice President of Wellness at Hilton, said: "Wellness can be an influential factor when it comes to holiday choices for some travellers - even when people are away, they don’t want to break their routine or healthy habits. "Expanding our industry-first partnership with Peloton allows us to offer an elevated wellness experience, whether guests are starting a fitness routine or are looking to maintain the habits they keep at home." Meanwhile, Daniel Sprung, Senior Director International, Partnerships and Commercial, Peloton: "We are constantly innovating to meet our Peloton Members and prospective Members where they are," "Expanding access to our Peloton Bike and extensive content, in partnership with Hilton, was a natural next step for our business. Those unfamiliar with our platform can engage with Peloton for the first time while at a Hilton property, and our existing, loyal Members can continue their routines on the go." Rishi Sunak said his favourite band are The Beatles and the Partridge jokes were inevitable
Rishi Sunak has been compared to Alan Partridge after discussing his favourite band… The Beatles. The PM was asked to name his favourite musical group, and he told GB News reporter Darren McCaffrey that his favourite band was the fab four. Instantly, people compared him to Steve Coogan’s comedy creation due to one moment from the classic sitcom. The 42-year-old was mocked online after a video resurfaced of him telling school pupils he is a “total coke addict” last year, before clarifying he meant Coca-Cola and not cocaine. In the footage, the chancellor can be seen telling two schoolboys: “I’m a Coke addict. A total Coke addict.” After a brief pause he clarifies: “Coca-Cola addict. Just for the record. Debate erupts over who was hotter - young Robert De Niro or young Al Pacino
Twitter users have been known to debate all manner of topics, but the most recent viral question saw users split over who they thought was hotter – young Robert De Niro or young Al Pacino. It was a question posed by Twitter user Ashely Reese who took to the social media platform to settle a debate at a wedding she was attending. Reese probably wasn’t anticipating that the tweet would go viral, drawing 277,372 votes and over 28 million views. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter She created a poll, explaining, “At a wedding and having a big debate rn. Please vote. Who was hotter?” with the two options being the American actors “Young Al Pacino” and “Young Robert De Niro”. In the comments, people made their arguments and posted pictures to support them. Despite Reese herself arguing for young Al Pacino to take the crown, not everyone was as convinced. Someone argued: “LOVE LOVE PACINO DOWN! But Mr. Bobby D eats him up EVERY TIME. He’s actively doing it right here.” Another urged: “The only right answer.” “This is the best a man has looked,” one Twitter user wrote of young De Niro. Others, however, vehemently agreed with the OP. One person wrote: “This is the correct answer, are half of you having some kind of episode, what on Earth.” “I’m sorry but all you saying De Niro are out of your actual minds, look at this gorgeous man,” someone else argued. Another wrote: “70s Al Pacino was one of the most beautiful people to ever exist on this earth.” In the end, the two acting legends could not be separated as the poll ended with a 50/50 percentage split of the votes. So, we'll probably never know the true answer to this question. Have your say in our news democracy. Irate woman attempts peace offering with neighbour after noisy sex sessions
An irate woman was forced to ask her neighbours to move their bed due to their noisy romps. She confessed she had no choice but to leave an awkward note after realising their shared wall was too thin. The woman, called Ali, explained how she’d had so many sleepless nights due to her noisy neighbours. She suggested the noise was interrupting her sleep schedule and making her lose her mind. She tweeted: “I think I’m finally going to leave my neighbours a note about them f*cking all day every day. “I can’t do it anymore I’m losing my mind I literally can’t enter my bedroom without hearing them f*cking. “They are keeping me up at night and waking me up in the morning, it’s insane.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Ali, of Yukon, Canada, then plucked up the courage to leave her noisy neighbours a note. It read “Congrats to you guys for your apparently very healthy sex life, seriously, good for you.” “However, I would prefer not to be a part of it and I’m sure you’d prefer that as well.” She applauded the couple on their “stamina”, but she went on to inform them that their robust sex life had started interfering with her sleep. Alongside the note, Ali left the couple two Corona beers. She added: “Please accept these beers as a peace offering or bargaining chip. “I was hoping they might be enough to persuade you to maybe move your bed to the other side of the room.” At first she thought the neighbours had taken her advice and moved their bed. However, just five hours later, she went back on herself, believing that the couple may have set an alarm for 6am to romp. She said “The girl dramatically fake moaned twice SO loud at exactly 6am on the dot and now the bed is currently slamming against the wall. “Happy Saturday folks, don’t assume the best in people”. Many users were quick to comment on the steamy situation. Bobby Lavender said “If I received this note I’d stick it to my fridge.. and obviously take your request seriously and oblige, of course. But definitely keeping the trophy.” Another called Erin said “Sounds like you needed those beers a lot more than they did.” Randy Treibel remarked “Focus on your own mental health instead of being a Karen.” Have your say in our news democracy. If you can spot the hidden tiger in this optical illusion you are in the top 1 per cent
Who doesn't love a good ol' optical illusion? Well apparently, if you can spot the second tiger in this trippy image, you're in the top one per cent of intelligent people – and it's much more difficult than you think. Asides from the obvious striped cat in the middle of the jungle, there's another "hidden tiger" that's left people scratching their heads. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Take a look: Found it yet? If you've spotted the hidden tiger in this image, then (apparently) you're smarter than most people. Discussing the importance of optical illusions to better understand our brains, scientists Kim Ransley and Alex O. Holcombe, of the University of Sydney told The Conversation: “Visual illusions show us that we do not have direct access to reality,” “They can also provide an inkling of the mental processing that delivers our experience of the viewable world. “Indeed, it is the processing happening inside our brains that is the basis for many illusions. “Rather than delivering information from our eyes in nearly raw form as a camera would, the brain tries to determine what is actually out there. “When the information entering the eye is ambiguous, the brain must make educated guesses.” Still need help? Take a closer look at the tiger itself. More specifically, its torso. The reason the optical illusion is so difficult to crack is because there is no image of a second tiger. In fact, it's the three words: "THE HIDDEN TIGER" stretched across its stomach and back leg. For the most part, optical illusions are a bit of fun, but they also hold real value for scientists. 'Petty' office worker who padlocks their milk in communal fridge sparks debate
One man’s ingenuity is another man’s pettiness, according to a debate that has been raging on social media. The dispute centres on the drastic measures taken by one office worker to protect a treasured belonging from thieving colleagues. We all know the pain of gasping for a cuppa, or making a bowl of cereal, only to find there’s no milk left in the fridge. So to avoid such torture, the worker fixed a lock onto their bottle of Tesco semi-skimmed. We can only imagine the resulting whispers in the communal kitchen, but most internet commentators condoned the move. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter A photo of the clever fortress was shared to Reddit last week under the headline: “Peak pettiness or justifiable security in the office kitchen?” It racked up 15,000 upvotes and 2,100 comments in five days, as users shared their tales of workplace food swipes. “It's kind of both at once,” one commentator wrote in response to the caption’s question. “If people didn't take what's not theirs there would be no need. I wouldn't go that far with milk but people lost food at the last place I was at. 12-hour shift with no food ain't a joke.” Another reminisced: “[I] worked at the Transport for London HQ for 5 years. I was f**king amazed at how many people's lunches went missing from the fridge.” A third recalled: “I once worked in a factory where the boss said if you want tea/coffee you gotta supply your own. Not a happy workforce. A week later I caught the t**t red-handed taking the foil off my milk.” A fourth said: “As someone who used to buy a 2 pints of milk every week, only for it to be completely empty by Wednesday morning, I totally understand the rationale.” And a fifth wrote: “I'm always happy to share my milk in the office, but the amount of times I have found that MY milk which I bought is completely empty with no replacement offered/available makes me feel this is completely justified. Nothing worse than making a cuppa only to find that someone finished the milk and left you high and dry (of milk).” Others suggested defending your milk from thieves is no different to locking up any other personal items. “It's not any more petty than using a locker to store your belongings, or locking up your bike. It's not petty to stop people from stealing your stuff,” said one. “Exactly. We really need some people to have a change of attitude about stuff like this,” agreed another. “ It's not ‘petty’ to lock your stuff away to prevent it being stolen. I think this c**py attitude comes from a lot of people who are annoyed they can't just steal stuff any more.” Meanwhile, others admitted to going to similar lengths themselves. “I bought an Udderlok for my milk at work and it worked fine for a few weeks,” one said. “But then I think some thief took it as a challenge and pretty much ripped the carton apart to steal the milk.” All this is enough to make anyone want to just work from home. Only the most observant people can figure out the difference between these triangles
These two triangles are both made up of four coloured shapes. But in the second triangle there is a missing square This gif confuses things even more So how does the missing square puzzle work? The missing square comes about because the slopes on the two triangles are not actually straight In fact, the shape of the puzzle is not even technically a triangle - it's a quadrilateral - because the "hypotenuse" (the longest side of the "triangle") is bent. As Brightside explains: "In reality, this is not an optical illusion, but a really interesting task. The areas of the colored pieces are of course equal (32 cells), but even if both figures look like triangles of 13×5, it isn’t so. In fact, they have different areas (S 13×5 = 32.5 cells). So the mystery of the puzzle is that the first figure called a triangle is, in fact, a concave quadrangle." This picture of the red and blue triangles helps to highlight the illusion. As does this gif from the Russian website Novate:

Mum furious after daughter is rejected from school choir - but no-one takes her side
A mother was left fuming after her daughter was rejected for her school choir. Writing on Mumsnet, the mother said the choir was "harsh" and that children should be allowed to participate regardless of their ability. She explained her daughter told her she was "sad about how she is a bad singer and she doesn't want to see her music teacher as she is too embarrassed" after an unsuccessful audition with the choir. "I do think rejecting a year 7 into something they are interested in trying is harsh, especially when it's hard enough for year 7s," she added. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "When kids are all singing in a group they do sound the same anyway! Obviously maybe solos could be kept for the particularly talented but I'm honestly just a bit sad and even annoyed," she said. But responding in the comments, people didn't exactly sympathise with the mother. "Auditions are to pick the best singers," one said. "Sorry but it's a life lesson. She can't be good at everything." Another wrote: "Rejection is a part of life, and it's a very valuable lesson. We can't always get what we want because we want it. "This is when we learn to accept defeat or decide to try again. Your daughter could take vocal lessons or practice on her own until auditions come around again." And a third said: "Of course you can’t be in a choir if you can’t sing." Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner have become an instant 'mansplaining' meme
The celebrity world loves nothing more than when two famous good-looking people get together and create a new power couple. Whereas the internet loves nothing more when that famous couple becomes an instant meme. This year we've already had Taylor Swift and Matty Healy memes as well as Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner memes. Well, now Kylie's sister, Kendall Jenner has been given the meme treatment thanks to her new squeeze, Puerta Rican rapper Bad Bunny. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The pair were at Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals between the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in Los Angeles on Friday and a moment between caught the internet's imagination. As Bad Bunny leaned over to tell Kendall something the model and reality TV star did her best to listen. Although it's unlikely we'll ever know what the two said to each other it turned into a new spin on the classic mansplaining meme. The meme soon found it's way onto wrestling Twitter with many making reference to Bad Bunny's recent match (yes, he actually wrestles now) against Damien Priest at WWE Backlash. Even more obscure takes were available. Incidentally, Bad Bunny, 29, has proven himself to be pretty adept at the wrestling game having impressed since his debut at WrestleMania 37 in 2021 and even competed in last year's Royal Rumble match. No word on if Kendall will soon be involved in WWE but time will tell. Have your say in our news democracy.
