How to get Instagram Wrapped and will it expose your activity?
How to get Instagram Wrapped and will it expose your activity?
One of the biggest events of the year on social media is the release of Spotify Wrapped. A chance for users to have their year in music compartmentalised into fun statistics to share and compare with friends. Now, a third-party app is promising something similar for Instagram. But should you be concerned about potential data breaches? In order to reveal your end-of-year round-up on Instagram, users have been downloading the app Wrapped, which claims to show your activities on your Instagram account. Although, it is currently only available on the App Store. Wrapped claims to present an in-depth analysis of your data after you download it from Instagram yourself. This is simple to do, with users only needing to go to their profile, go to Your Activity, and select Download Your Information. Wrapped alleges that some of the data it will present you with includes how many people screenshot your posts, how many users have blocked you, and who you interacted the most with. Despite these claims, there is increasing scepticism that the results given to users are accurate. Meta - Instagram's parent company - has a strict policy against revealing any details regarding its users. And Instagram doesn't show who visited your profile. Some users who have tried the app have claimed that Wrapped shows them different figures with each attempt. "I'm 90% sure it's inaccurate," wrote one user. "I just downloaded it and every time I logged into my account and looked at the numbers, it changed. Most drastic was the number of people who have apparently blocked me which went from 1 to 2 then 12 in the span of 5 minutes. Wouldn't trust it!" Due to the requirement of sharing data from your personal Instagram account, many are worried that their data may be exposed after sharing their information with a third-party app. Wrapped's developer, Wrapped Labs, claims in their privacy policy: "For a better experience, while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information. The information that we request will be retained by us and used as described in this privacy policy. "The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you." Their policy also claims Wrapped does its best to protect user's personal information but it "cannot guarantee its absolute security." Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle ruffles Machine Gun Kelly’s feathers during viral F1 clash
Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle ruffles Machine Gun Kelly’s feathers during viral F1 clash
Music artist Machine Gun Kelly has the most savage reaction to F1’s Martin Brundle after walking away from the Sky interviewer. Brundle is well known for his grid walks as he tries to catch live interviews with celebrities, sometimes leading to awkward encounters like when Brad Pitt completely snubbed him. This time, the British former racing driver was on the tarmac ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix race where he managed to catch a few moments with Machine Gun Kelly. Brundle first asked the American rapper about his career and what is going on with him currently, prompting quite a strange response, as Kelly simply replied: “Oh, my career. I don’t think about my career, I don’t think about it.” But, the artist perked up a bit when asked about F1, saying, “I think your business (F1) is great. It’s loud, your life is on the line and that’s exciting. “I was in a studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice, yeah.” He then flipped the question around and asked Brundle what he thinks about the music business. The Sky Sports presenter replied, saying that there’s always been “a synergy between the music business and the motor racing business”. Things then got very odd as Kelly asked Brundle to do his best “air piano”, so they could do a “collaboration”, which Brundle politely declined. The presenter explained that he “probably needs to get on”, prompting a thumbs down to the camera from Kelly before he walked off, disappointed. Brundle concluded: “Something tells me I won’t be on his Christmas list.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Who is Carmen Amaya? Google Doodle celebrates iconic flamenco dancer
Who is Carmen Amaya? Google Doodle celebrates iconic flamenco dancer
If you’ve used Google today, you may have noticed the typical logo on the search engine has been jazzed up as it pays tribute to the Spanish Romani flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya. The Google Doodle features bright colours and the animated figure of Amaya in a pose with her hands flared in a way that reflects the traditional style of dance she performed. On 2 November, it marks what would have been Amaya's 110th birthday and was illustrated by the Barcelona-based artist Genie Espinoza. Who is Carmen Amaya? Born on 2 November 1913 in Barcelona, Amaya was born into a family of flamenco dancers. Her father played the guitar and by the time she was 4 years old, she was already dancing in tavernas whilst he played. Her unique and expressive dance style eventually caught the attention of a showrunner, who booked her to perform in prestigious venues such as the Spanish Theatre in Barcelona and Paris’ Palace Theatre. In 1929, when Amaya was in her mid-teens, she began touring Spain and Portugal with some of the world’s most renowned flamenco dancers. While other dancers in the genre focused on the movements of their upper body and arms, Amaya utilised her whole body. In addition, her rapid footwork became a known trademark of her unique style, which drew fans from across Latin America. Amaya settled in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and formed her own flamenco troupe which toured around South America. Next, after more than a decade of touring, she moved to Mexico City. In 1941, Amaya performed in New York where she won over the US President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who later invited her to dance at the White House. Towards the end of her career, she spent time in Hollywood, acting in films such as La Historia de los Tarantos. Over the years, Amaya’s legacy has been recognised by her home country of Spain. She was awarded the Medal of the Tourist Merit of Barcelona and in the city’s Montuic Park, there is a monument and a fountain in her honour. The Rock called out for wearing fake Man Utd shirt in David Beckham tribute
The Rock called out for wearing fake Man Utd shirt in David Beckham tribute
Halloween 2023 was the year celebrities went above and beyond with their outfits, with many cosplaying as fellow A-listers. Social media feeds were filled with a swarm of Britneys, while Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne dressed as Kanye West and his wife in her 'pillow outfit'. The Rock almost instantly went viral after sporting a Manchester United shirt as David Beckham, too. Beckham himself was impressed by the former wrestler's efforts and left a comment on his Instagram post. "I mean I thought I was looking in the mirror. Looking good man you might need a bigger jersey," he wrote. He went on to share the photo on his own Instagram page, where it racked up thousands of likes and comments. Iconic, yes. But, attention soon turned to the football shirt with some commenting that it was fake. "The richest actor in the world with a fake football shirt," one person wrote, while another added: "Lol, with all that money and can’t even afford a real shirt. Can’t look any more American wearing that." "Someone has clearly been watching the Netflix documentary, could have at least bought a real shirt though," one Instagrammer said. Meanwhile, a third felt as though people were taking it a little too seriously, reassuring trolls that "it's just fancy dress." It comes after Beckham's docuseries hit Netflix, with never-before-seen footage of him and his family. The show delved into his humble beginnings to how he met Victoria and cheating allegations. It has since birthed a TikTok trend dubbed the 'Beckham test,' to see whether partners join in on dancing to 'Islands in the Stream' following a wholesome scene scene between Victoria and David. Elon Musk mocked after Blade Runner reference backfires
Elon Musk mocked after Blade Runner reference backfires
Elon Musk has attracted the ire of film fans everywhere after making a Blade Runner reference that backfired on him. The Tesla billionaire and owner of Twitter/X made a passing comment about the seminal 80s sci-fi classic directed by Ridley Scott, which was quickly pounced upon by cinephiles on social media. Musk was responding to a clip of Joe Rogan shooting the highly-anticipated Tesla Cybertruck with a bow and arrow – which is one of the stranger moments from Musk’s recent appearance on his podcast this week. Speaking about the vehicle – which Tesla fans have been waiting years for, and is finally being sent out to customers “next month” according to Musk – Musk made reference to the film. “It’s an armored personnel carrier from the future – what Bladerunner would have driven,” he wrote, responding to footage of the moment with Rogan. Referencing a classic sci-fi movie would be no big deal, normally. However, people were quick to point out that the main character played by Harrison Ford was not, in fact, called Bladerunner. Instead, the character was called Rick Deckard – and it left some film fans convinced Musk has never seen the film or he’s misunderstood it. Writing on Twitter/X, one user responded by writing: “Just taking a moment here to appreciate that Elon Musk thinks the main character in Blade Runner is a guy called ‘Bladerunner’”. Another said: “Elon Musk thinks the protagonist from Blade Runner is called ‘Bladerunner’ and also has no f***ing idea what an Armoured Personnel Carrier is.” It comes after Musk appeared on Rogan’s podcast on Tuesday (October 31), which saw Musk kicking off by lighting a cigar and speaking to Rogan, who was wearing a blonde wig and a Puerto Rico shirt throughout the interview to mark Halloween – check out the biggest talking points from the new interview here. MrBeast accused of 'scripting' his viral challenge videos
MrBeast isn’t having a great time of it at the moment. First, Rosanna Pansino accused him of editing the recent Creator Games 3 video to reduce her role, before issuing an apology amid an influx of death threats. Now, streamer xQc has added his thoughts and accused MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, of “scripting” his challenge videos. Speaking to people in his chat, xQc told his viewers to “get out” if they ever find themselves competing in a MrBeast challenge video. “Chat… Guys, if you get selected to be in MrBeast’s video, I got you,” he said. xQc thinks MrBeast scrips his videos www.youtube.com xQc, real name Félix Lengyel, then shared his “number one tip” with his followers, saying: “If you can get out, get out. Okay?” “MrBeast’s endgames are so scripted and dumb. The dumbest s*** happens, just f****** go home, dude.” He added: “If you weren’t in on the script, okay, you’re done. Go home, dude.” It comes after Pansino competed in one of the three hide-and-seek challenges hosted by MrBeast in Creator Games 3, and she previously accused MrBeast of presenting a version of events which didn’t really happen and reducing her role in the clip. The YouTuber posted a message on Twitter/X last week with the caption: “I have been allowing others to treat me poorly in private for many years and I’m fed up. The content creator wrote: “When the video was released I was shocked, disappointed, and felt hurt. MrBeast (Jimmy) had edited the video to make me look like I performed worse than I did. This was extra upsetting because I genuinely believed him when he said that his videos are ‘authentic and real’.” Pansino also disputed the top three shown in the video, which were Zach King, Logan Paul and Larray. “The final [three] people were actually Zach, Quackity, and myself,” Pansino said. “This is what actually happened. Despite Jimmy editing out the only female in the top [three], I was proud of what I achieved.” Pansino later apologised to MrBeast. She deleted the tweets and said sorry for criticising him publicly, while also stating that she had received death threats after posting on social media. “I would like to apologize to MrBeast,” she wrote. “I should have expressed my feelings privately and handled things directly.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. iShowSpeed faces backlash for bizarre reaction to Messi's Ballon d'Or win
Popular streamer iShowSpeed accidentally started a standing ovation for Lionel Messi while trying to snub him. On Monday (30 October), the Inter Miami CF star won the Ballon d'Or, the biggest individual football award there is, for the eighth time. As David Beckham was about to announce the winner, Speed (real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr) could be heard whispering "Ronaldo, Ronaldo" in hopes his sporting idol Cristiano Ronaldo would bag the award. Speed looked distraught when Messi's name was revealed, prompting him to stand up in shock. Footage was soon shared to X/Twitter, where many people joked: "He is the one that made everyone stand up". Another wrote: "Everyone standing up with him really helped LOL". Some people were not impressed by Speed's reaction, writing: "I don’t understand why this clown is famous." Another questioned "how and why he was invited." Meanwhile, a third chimed in: "Ronaldo... Ronaldo... Who wasn't even shortlisted.." Upon accepting the award, Messi said he "couldn't imagine having the career that I've had. Everything that I've achieved." "The fortune I've had playing for the best team in the world, the best team in history. It's nice to win these individual trophies," he continued. "To win the Copa America and then the World Cup, to get it done is amazing. All of them [Ballon d'Or awards] are special for different reasons." Beckham went on to promise Messi a party following his record-breaking win. "It's very special to say he's a Miami player and he's in our city," Beckham said. "He'll celebrate this with his teammates and his family in his way. "We'll do our best to celebrate it in the Miami way. I'm sure we can do a good party." Groom starts debate online after holding a controversial sign at wedding
Groom starts debate online after holding a controversial sign at wedding
A groom has sparked a debate on TikTok after displaying a controversial sign to his wedding guests. In a viral clip posted to the platform, the bride and groom can be seen saying their vows at the altar. However, attention soon turned to the man who was hiding one hand behind his back with a message on his phone reading: "Help me!!!" The footage has since racked up a staggering 34.5 million views, with tens of thousands more comments flooding TikTok. One wrote: "He obviously has an awesome sense of humour and I guess, so does she. She knows the man she is marrying. I love people who can make you laugh." Another added: "My dad put that on the bottom of his shoes. Everyone laughed. It was a joke." One person was not happy about the footage, writing: "If my husband-to-be did this he would no longer have a wife." Meanwhile, one thoughtful commentator questioned: "Imagine he actually needed help." Many more TikTokers chimed in with laughing face emojis - but clearly, not everyone was impressed. @mrjexer Wedding day blues!!! While the prank was seemingly in good humour, it wasn't the case for another couple who got divorced after just three minutes. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that one bride from Kuwait called it quits after being mocked by her groom for tripping up during the ceremony. The bizarre story soon surfaced on X/Twitter, with one person writing: "I went to a wedding where the groom spent his speech making fun of his wife like it was some kind of roast, as did her father. She should have done what this woman did." How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Man branded an 'a**hole' for making 'obese' flight passenger pay $150 to sit next to him
Man branded an 'a**hole' for making 'obese' flight passenger pay $150 to sit next to him
A man has sparked a debate on Reddit after he admitted to making an 'obese' passenger pay him an extra $100 because he took up part of his seat. The supposed incident was reported on the infamous subreddit "Am I The A**hole?' where the user asked: 'AITA for making an obese man pay me cash to take up part of my seat on a long flight?' According to the man he was on a 5-hour cross-country flight where he had purposefully booked an aisle seat in a row of just two meaning there was no middle seat; just an aisle and a window seat. The user said that he saw the other passenger coming and was 'crossing his fingers' that he wasn't sitting next to him but sure enough he was. The man continues: "I get up and let him in politely, wanting to at least give him a chance. Well, he sits down and is easily seeping into about 1/3 of my seat. I sit down and am pressed up against him, making me uncomfortable. After a minute, I decided to be upfront and tell him: “Sir, I’m sorry but this situation is not working for me, you’re taking up quite a bit of my seat”. He added that the passenger just gave him a 'shrug' and tried to make himself narrower by tightening his arms but did little to appease the disgruntled man. He eventually decided to consult an air stewardess who told him the only way he they could resolve the issue was to buy another seat or book another flight. There were no other seats available on the plane though and the man admitted that he couldn't wait for a later flight, that's when he decided to make the 'obese' man an offer: "Look, I’ll put up with this if you give me $150 — that’s half the cost of this flight and that would compensate me enough for the circumstances." Amazingly, he claimed that the other man instantly agreed to this deal and not only paid him in cash but also told him that he 'appreciated' it. However, despite both men reportedly being happy with the resolution the man claimed that others on board were quietly judging him and branded him an 'a**hole' for making the other man pay to sit next to him. Needless to say many felt the man was out of order for the way he acted. One person said: "The problem here was that this large dude stuck you with being uncomfortable on your flight, right? Well, the $150 didn't make you any less squished in your seat, so it really feels like you just blackmailed this guy for being fat." Another wrote: "This is ridiculous. You made a scene and embarrassed the man and then made him pay you for a fraction of your seat. You are the epitome of an a**hole." A third added: "You didn’t settle this privately—you humiliated the guy by involving the flight attendant and then demanding $150 to allow him to stay on this flight." Some did defend him though feeling that the other man and the airline were in the wrong. One said: "He should have bought two seats, this is his fault, in fact he got off well with it. He agreed and you agreed. I am sure if the people behind you were in the same position they would have thought differently." A second person wrote: "You compromised. He compromised. It was an awkward situation of nobody's making. I think half the cost of the flight was maybe a bit steep though, if he was only in a third of your seat. Having said that, five hours is a long time."
