MrBeast accused of 'scripting' his viral challenge videos
MrBeast accused of 'scripting' his viral challenge videos
MrBeast isn’t having a great time of it at the moment. First, Rosanna Pansino accused him of editing the recent Creator Games 3 video to reduce her role, before issuing an apology amid an influx of death threats. Now, streamer xQc has added his thoughts and accused MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, of “scripting” his challenge videos. Speaking to people in his chat, xQc told his viewers to “get out” if they ever find themselves competing in a MrBeast challenge video. “Chat… Guys, if you get selected to be in MrBeast’s video, I got you,” he said. xQc thinks MrBeast scrips his videos www.youtube.com xQc, real name Félix Lengyel, then shared his “number one tip” with his followers, saying: “If you can get out, get out. Okay?” “MrBeast’s endgames are so scripted and dumb. The dumbest s*** happens, just f****** go home, dude.” He added: “If you weren’t in on the script, okay, you’re done. Go home, dude.” It comes after Pansino competed in one of the three hide-and-seek challenges hosted by MrBeast in Creator Games 3, and she previously accused MrBeast of presenting a version of events which didn’t really happen and reducing her role in the clip. The YouTuber posted a message on Twitter/X last week with the caption: “I have been allowing others to treat me poorly in private for many years and I’m fed up. The content creator wrote: “When the video was released I was shocked, disappointed, and felt hurt. MrBeast (Jimmy) had edited the video to make me look like I performed worse than I did. This was extra upsetting because I genuinely believed him when he said that his videos are ‘authentic and real’.” Pansino also disputed the top three shown in the video, which were Zach King, Logan Paul and Larray. “The final [three] people were actually Zach, Quackity, and myself,” Pansino said. “This is what actually happened. Despite Jimmy editing out the only female in the top [three], I was proud of what I achieved.” Pansino later apologised to MrBeast. She deleted the tweets and said sorry for criticising him publicly, while also stating that she had received death threats after posting on social media. “I would like to apologize to MrBeast,” she wrote. “I should have expressed my feelings privately and handled things directly.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. Stephen King calls out Elon Musk’s ‘bull****’ comments about 'woke civilisation'
American author Stephen King has called out billionaire Elon Musk over his “bulls***” comments about “woke” civilisation. King and Musk previously clashed in April, after the X/Twitter CEO removed the famous blue checkmarks for all verified people (except those who paid for a Twitter Blue subscription), but decided that he would pay for a handful of select celebrities to keep theirs. King was one of the high-profile accounts Musk decided should keep the blue tick, prompting the author to clarify to followers that he did not pay for his blue checkmark. Now, the It author has clashed with Musk once again, after Musk made the confusing claim that people are waking up from being “woke”. Writing on X/Twitter, the CEO wrote: “The great wakening from woke has happened. This is good for civilization.” But, King simply replied to the billionaire’s claim, writing that his statement was “bulls**t”. Others were similarly perplexed by Musk’s statement. One person asked: “I'm confused. If you've wakened from woke are you like, super woke? Woke squared? Woke to the power of woke? Or have you gone back to sleep?” Another joked: “Folks, the man is post-woke, also known as fully unconscious.” Some took the opportunity to praise King for calling out Musk’s strange comment. “As time goes on, I love Stephen King more and more,” someone wrote. Someone else said: “Love Mr. King.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. iShowSpeed faces backlash for bizarre reaction to Messi's Ballon d'Or win
Popular streamer iShowSpeed accidentally started a standing ovation for Lionel Messi while trying to snub him. On Monday (30 October), the Inter Miami CF star won the Ballon d'Or, the biggest individual football award there is, for the eighth time. As David Beckham was about to announce the winner, Speed (real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr) could be heard whispering "Ronaldo, Ronaldo" in hopes his sporting idol Cristiano Ronaldo would bag the award. Speed looked distraught when Messi's name was revealed, prompting him to stand up in shock. Footage was soon shared to X/Twitter, where many people joked: "He is the one that made everyone stand up". Another wrote: "Everyone standing up with him really helped LOL". Some people were not impressed by Speed's reaction, writing: "I don’t understand why this clown is famous." Another questioned "how and why he was invited." Meanwhile, a third chimed in: "Ronaldo... Ronaldo... Who wasn't even shortlisted.." Upon accepting the award, Messi said he "couldn't imagine having the career that I've had. Everything that I've achieved." "The fortune I've had playing for the best team in the world, the best team in history. It's nice to win these individual trophies," he continued. "To win the Copa America and then the World Cup, to get it done is amazing. All of them [Ballon d'Or awards] are special for different reasons." Beckham went on to promise Messi a party following his record-breaking win. "It's very special to say he's a Miami player and he's in our city," Beckham said. "He'll celebrate this with his teammates and his family in his way. "We'll do our best to celebrate it in the Miami way. I'm sure we can do a good party." Groom starts debate online after holding a controversial sign at wedding
Groom starts debate online after holding a controversial sign at wedding
A groom has sparked a debate on TikTok after displaying a controversial sign to his wedding guests. In a viral clip posted to the platform, the bride and groom can be seen saying their vows at the altar. However, attention soon turned to the man who was hiding one hand behind his back with a message on his phone reading: "Help me!!!" The footage has since racked up a staggering 34.5 million views, with tens of thousands more comments flooding TikTok. One wrote: "He obviously has an awesome sense of humour and I guess, so does she. She knows the man she is marrying. I love people who can make you laugh." Another added: "My dad put that on the bottom of his shoes. Everyone laughed. It was a joke." One person was not happy about the footage, writing: "If my husband-to-be did this he would no longer have a wife." Meanwhile, one thoughtful commentator questioned: "Imagine he actually needed help." Many more TikTokers chimed in with laughing face emojis - but clearly, not everyone was impressed. @mrjexer Wedding day blues!!! While the prank was seemingly in good humour, it wasn't the case for another couple who got divorced after just three minutes. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that one bride from Kuwait called it quits after being mocked by her groom for tripping up during the ceremony. The bizarre story soon surfaced on X/Twitter, with one person writing: "I went to a wedding where the groom spent his speech making fun of his wife like it was some kind of roast, as did her father. She should have done what this woman did." How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman praised for biting reply to date after he asked her to split the bill – by text
Woman praised for biting reply to date after he asked her to split the bill – by text
The question of who should pick up the tab at the end of a date has divided people since time immemorial (or, at least since women were actually allowed to earn money). Most agree that splitting or paying for one’s own share is the fairest course of action, however, others romanticise the more archaic idea of the man covering the lot. But, regardless of your view, once the bill is settled, most of us just move on. Yet, this wasn’t the case for one would-be Cassanova who paid for dinner with a woman, then swiftly tried to backtrack on his own generosity. The man, named only as Jason, texted his date the morning after their meal and asked her to reimburse him. According to a screenshot of their message exchange, shared to Reddit, Jason wrote: “Good morning. I had a great time last night! After thinking it over... I think I will take you up on splitting the dinner. "I'm going to the game today and didn't realise I spent so much last night lol. Can you Venmo me $50?" The unnamed woman explained in a caption to the grab that she had offered to “pay for herself on the date”, which would have amounted to $25 (around £20). However, she added: “He drank so much the tab was over 100 bucks (around £82).” Happily, she stuck to her guns and refused to submit to his shameless request. "Good morning,” she replied. “That offer expired after we left the restaurant. “Have fun at the game." Her post racked up more than 75,600 upvotes and 2,900 comments in one day of it being shared to the ‘mildlyinfuriating’ subreddit. “People that want to split the bill when they got multiple appetizers, a fancy alcoholic drink and a steak when I got chicken tenders are on some wild s**t,” one fellow Redditor wrote. “I imagine he didn’t want to take her up on the offer at the restaurant because it would hurt his fragile ego. It would make him look bad. So he decided to ask for money when no one was around… disgusting,” said another. “You’ve heard of girl math, you’ve heard of guy math, you’ve even heard of dog math but let us now present… jason math!” joked a third. “Honestly the balls to change up the ratio after its been paid at all, let alone the next day,” fumed a fourth. In an update shared a few hours later, the woman said she’d received a text from a “random number” after blocking Jason. It read: “Aye take that s**t off reddit.” After asking who the mystery messenger was, he replied: “B***h you know who this is!” She then wrote back: “I'm not taking it down. Do better next time and you wouldn’t (sic) get called out for your trash behavior. “Don’t text me again.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Couple instantly regret opening message in a bottle they found washed up on beach
Couple instantly regret opening message in a bottle they found washed up on beach
There’s something magical, even romantic, about the idea of finding a message in a bottle. It evokes dreams of far-off shipwrecks and intimate capsules from the past. But, in fact, the reality of finding such a missive can be a lot more prosaic – and even downright disturbing – as one couple discovered last week. The pair, named Rick and Crystal, were enjoying a seaside stroll on a beach in North Queensland, Australia, when they spotted a mysterious bottle in the waves. Filming their find for TikTok, Rick grabbed the clear, glass container, which contained a piece of paper along with what looked like sand, and handed it to his partner to open up. Realising the neck was too narrow for her fingers, they tipped it upside down, sending the dusty-looking contents pouring out. Crystal was still unable to pull out the note, but she managed to read it through the murky glass. “Here lies the ashes of Geoffrey,” she said, before blurting out “argh” with horror. Continuing, she read: “If found, please throw the bottle in the outgoing tide so I can continue my journey.” Realising that they had just chucked away the cremated remains of a man and ruined his final wish, Rick replied awkwardly: Oops.” @auslapourway This was not a set up, it was a total accident. #FNQGeoffrey#ashes#ooops#soz#gatheredGeoffbackbinbottle#thrownbackout Their video racked up more than 1.8 million views and 234,000 likes in just five days, as thousands of fellow TikTokers shared their morbid glee at the alleged mishap. “Looks like his journey has ended twice” wrote one commentator. “Well anyways welcome to Australia Geoff,” joked another. “Omg that’s my dad,” wrote a third, along with a grimacing emoji. “Okay but why would you put a message in a bottle and not think someone would open it?” mused a fourth. A fifth suggested that the couple may not have been the first to may the mistake. “Wonder how full the bottle was originally,” they wrote, to which Rick replied: “Haha yer we thought that.” A sixth recommended that the pair “just put some sand back in there and chuck it back in”. “No one will ever know,” they added. “That’s exactly what I did,” Rick admitted in response. “Tried to get all of him back in there. Felt bad bro.” Well, even if Geoff’s physical journey ended there, at least he’s now travelled the world through social media. Anti-vaxxers spread callous conspiracy theory about Matthew Perry's death
Anti-vaxxers spread callous conspiracy theory about Matthew Perry's death
No sooner had news broke of Matthew Perry’s untimely death than conspiracy theorists seized upon the tragedy. Early on Sunday, it emerged that the Friends icon had been found dead at his LA home on Saturday afternoon, after apparently drowning in his hot tub. According to US media, the 54-year-old had played a two-hour game of pickleball earlier in the day before sending his assistant out on an errand. When they returned, they allegedly found Perry unresponsive in the jacuzzi. Los Angeles Police Department officials have since told reporters that the cause of death isn’t likely to be determined for some time, but confirmed that there was no sign of foul play. And yet, this hasn’t stopped wannabe sleuths from offering up their own baseless hypotheses. High-profile anti-vaxxers were quick to blame Perry’s death on the coronavirus jab, including Kandiss Taylor, a Republican politician who recently compared Taylor Swift to Satan, and self-styled “crypto influencer” Matt Wallace. They made use of a 2021 ad campaign, for which the Friends star donned a t-shirt branded with the slogan: “Could I BE any more vaccinated?” In a further bid to hijack the sad news, theorists even edited Perry’s Wikipedia page to add: “It is unclear whether the drowning was due to complications from the COVID-19 vaccine.” Luckily, this amendment has since been deleted. More level-headed commentators spoke out against the unsupported suggestions, with one pointing out that sudden deaths do, sadly, happen, even in the young and healthy. Others condemned the conspiracy mongers for “adding more grief to grieving people”. Meanwhile, others asserted that Perry had been close to death many times before he’d received his coronavirus vaccinations, owing to his decades-long battle with alcohol and substance abuse. Indeed, the American-Canadian actor began his 2022 memoir ‘Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing’ by addressing his issues head-on. In the opening to the book he wrote: "Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. “My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead." In a New York Times interview published in October 2022, Perry said he had been clean for 18 months and estimated that he’d “probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober." He admitted that his substance abuse started when he began drinking, aged 14, and that he later became addicted to the prescription drugs Vicodin, OxyContin, and Xanax. “I would fake back injuries. I would fake migraine headaches. I had eight doctors going at the same time,” he told The New York Times. “I would wake up and have to get 55 Vicodin that day, and figure out how to do it.” In previous interviews, he admitted to being in rehab at least 15 times and getting 14 surgeries on his stomach caused by his opioid abuse, Rolling Stone notes. Then, at the age of 49, his colon burst as a result of his drug addiction, leaving him hospitalised for five months, including two weeks in a coma. “The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,” the 17 Again star wrote in his memoir. “I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.” Perry further detailed how, in late 2020, he had to pull out of filming a cameo in the Oscar-nominated satire Don’t Look Up after his heart stopped for five minutes and his ribs had to be broken to resuscitate him. In his book, Perry also opened up about his struggles while filming Friends, and recounted a confrontation he'd had with co-star Jennifer Anniston while filming. “I know you’re drinking – we can smell it,” he recalled her telling him, admitting that the plural “we” hit him “like a sledgehammer.” In the foreword to the memoir, fellow Friends legend Lisa Kudrow described Perry as “whip-smart, charming, sweet, sensitive, very reasonable, and rational.” She added: “That guy, with everything he was battling, was still there.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Chandler Bing's funniest quotes in honour of Matthew Perry
Chandler Bing's funniest quotes in honour of Matthew Perry
Chandler Bing basically invented sarcasm, in the eyes of millions. And yet, the beloved Friends character was not so much played by Matthew Perry as he was Matthew Perry. According to the star, who passed away on Saturday, when he first read the script for the iconic sitcom, he felt as though someone had followed him around for a year, stolen his jokes, and perfected his “world-weary yet witty view of life”. Some of the show’s funniest lines were delivered by the American-Canadian actor, whose expert delivery helped seal them into the annals of comic writing. Now, in the wake of Perry’s tragic and untimely death at the age of 54, indy100 has rounded up Chandler’s most memorable, and side-splitting, quotes: 1. Could I be... OK, admittedly this isn't a single quote, but Chandler's intonations became catchphrase-worthy in themselves, as tributes to Perry confirm: 2. "I'm not great at the advice... can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?" 3. "Hi, I'm Chandler. I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable" 4. "And yet I never run into Beyoncé" 5. "And I just want a million dollars!" 6. "Was that place the Sun?" 7. "What did I marry into?" 8. "I’m sorry, we don’t have your sheep" 9. "I tend to keep talking until somebody stops me" 10. Sure... where? Chandler had the last word in the last ever episode of Friends. And it couldn't have been more perfect... Of course, if you really want to absorb yourself in the genius that was Chandler, you can watch one of the countless compilations that have been created on YouTube and X/Twitter. Matthew Perry's 'eerie' final Instagram post leaves fans in tears
Matthew Perry, the actor best known for playing Chandler Bing in the beloved sitcom Friends, has died aged 54, according to numerous reports from the United States. Perry was reportedly found dead in a hot tub in his Los Angeles home on October 28th with police being called to his home at around 4pm. Although an investigation is ongoing there is said to be no signs of foul play. NBC, the network which aired all 10 seasons of Friends confirmed Perry's death in a statement. It read: "We are incredibly saddened by the too-soon passing of Matthew Perry. "He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch-perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations." Tributes have since poured in for Perry from across the celebrity and media world as his admirers come to terms with his untimely passing. Elsewhere, fans have been flocking to the actor's final Instagram post which was shared just six days ago. Coincidentally the post features Perry in a hot tub at night with headphones on. The caption for the post reads: "Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I'm Mattman." Mattman was a reference to an apparent obsession that Perry had with the superhero Batman. The post has since been flooded with comments from heartbroken fans, with some pointing out the unfortunate connection between the image and Perry's death. One wrote: "This caption is so eerie now, 6 days later. So scary. Rest in Peace man." Another said: "His last post was in the same place he died. So devastating. Rest in peace."
