Dating in 2023 can be draining. One minute, TikTokers and experts alike urge singletons to abide by a set of rules. The next, there are none. Then, there's the evergrowing dictionary of dating terms people must become familiar with – and this is all before you've even swiped right. But now, one 'new' dating technique circulating online has people divided, and it requires a man to spend $2,000 on his date before their date even considers sleeping with him. Columnist Jana Hocking highlighted the rise of the dating trend, adding that she's warming up to the idea. "The first reason why this new rule is kinda growing on me is that if a guy is willing to go on enough dates to warrant $2,000 out of pocket expense, then there’s a fair chance the guy is properly invested in you," Hocking wrote for AU News. "I mean, if a libido can withstand that many dates, then he’s a keeper," she continued. She went on to share the second reason, writing: "I think most importantly, is spending that amount of time together without getting distracted by nakedness might actually help us get all those icks out of the way nice and early." The trend was taken a bit more seriously after podcaster Joe Rogan suggested that some men experience something called 'PNS' – look it up. This can often lead to many women being harshly ghosted after intercourse. He said: "You realise you made a mistake, especially if the woman is really into you, and you’re really not into her and you’re like ‘oh I made an error’ and then you do feel like an a**hole, but I’m just being honest. A chance for users to have their year in music compartmentalised into fun statistics to share and compare with friends. Now, a third-party app is promising something similar for Instagram. But should you be concerned about potential data breaches? In order to reveal your end-of-year round-up on Instagram, users have been downloading the app Wrapped, which claims to show your activities on your Instagram account. Although, it is currently only available on the App Store. Wrapped claims to present an in-depth analysis of your data after you download it from Instagram yourself. This is simple to do, with users only needing to go to their profile, go to Your Activity, and select Download Your Information. Wrapped alleges that some of the data it will present you with includes how many people screenshot your posts, how many users have blocked you, and who you interacted the most with. Despite these claims, there is increasing scepticism that the results given to users are accurate. Meta - Instagram's parent company - has a strict policy against revealing any details regarding its users. And Instagram doesn't show who visited your profile. Some users who have tried the app have claimed that Wrapped shows them different figures with each attempt. "I'm 90% sure it's inaccurate," wrote one user. "I just downloaded it and every time I logged into my account and looked at the numbers, it changed. Most drastic was the number of people who have apparently blocked me which went from 1 to 2 then 12 in the span of 5 minutes. Wouldn't trust it!" Due to the requirement of sharing data from your personal Instagram account, many are worried that their data may be exposed after sharing their information with a third-party app. Wrapped's developer, Wrapped Labs, claims in their privacy policy: "For a better experience, while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information. The information that we request will be retained by us and used as described in this privacy policy. "The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you." Their policy also claims Wrapped does its best to protect user's personal information but it "cannot guarantee its absolute security." Huge effigies of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman were set on fire at a bonfire celebration. Every year, the town of Lewes in East Sussex hosts a huge bonfire event that is attended by thousands of people who crowd the streets of the market town. Seven different bonfire societies that have been around since the 19th Century make an effigy that often reflects the current political climate. These are paraded through the street before being burned in a field. In the past, they have included figures such as Vladimir Putin and Liz Truss. Sunak and Braverman found themselves in the firing line this year, as each of them had an effigy, or a tableau, made of them. Each was booed by the crowds as it passed. A large effigy of the PM was depicted emerging from a Southern Rail train that had the face of the RMT union boss Mick Lynch. Where there would typically be lettering showing the first class carriage, the words instead read, “No Class”. Another sign included in the effigy read, “No HS2”. Meanwhile, a large effigy of the Home Secretary was also paraded through the streets, depicting her with octopus tentacles and a maniacal look on her face while holding two fingers up to the crowd. Sunak was also seen in a second effigy, depicting him as a rat surrounded by oil money and under the control of Tory “fat cats”, referring to the rich political donors who are accused of using their wealth to influence government. Music artist Machine Gun Kelly has the most savage reaction to F1’s Martin Brundle after walking away from the Sky interviewer. Brundle is well known for his grid walks as he tries to catch live interviews with celebrities, sometimes leading to awkward encounters like when Brad Pitt completely snubbed him. This time, the British former racing driver was on the tarmac ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix race where he managed to catch a few moments with Machine Gun Kelly. Brundle first asked the American rapper about his career and what is going on with him currently, prompting quite a strange response, as Kelly simply replied: “Oh, my career. I don’t think about my career, I don’t think about it.” But, the artist perked up a bit when asked about F1, saying, “I think your business (F1) is great. It’s loud, your life is on the line and that’s exciting. “I was in a studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice, yeah.” He then flipped the question around and asked Brundle what he thinks about the music business. The Sky Sports presenter replied, saying that there’s always been “a synergy between the music business and the motor racing business”. Things then got very odd as Kelly asked Brundle to do his best “air piano”, so they could do a “collaboration”, which Brundle politely declined. The presenter explained that he “probably needs to get on”, prompting a thumbs down to the camera from Kelly before he walked off, disappointed. We've all seen that pub TikTok now. You know what I'm talking about. The one featuring the guys with mullets and moustaches, a pint of Guinness, and definitely very candid moments caught on camera. The video was filmed and posted by Max Lepage-Keefe, outside The Blue Posts in Soho, with Dusty Springfield's 'Spooky', playing in the background. The text overlay reads "Pints, chit chat and good people >". What could have simply been an innocent, albeit staged, TikTok of friends at the pub, has managed to rile up most of the UK. Comments under the TikTok include: "One of the hardest watches this year", "Rah bro ignore my iPhone 15 pro max propped on the ledge bro we're having a pint", "it's the look at the camera while he's laughing for me." Speaking to The Tab, Max said "I've had people commenting saying that I've got a trust fund. I wish I did. I'm not a Tory, I work two jobs... I didn't say a word in this video and it's rattled so many people. I love the pub and I like dressing how I want to dress. So, just combine the two with a pint and it's all right!" Max also pushed back on claims that the video was all pretend and that he and his friends kept glancing into the camera. "One of my other friends was already filming so I thought I may as well set up my phone too," he said. "You feel it's there for maybe the first 30 seconds... A woman has gone viral on TikTok for sharing a hidden room she found in her house. On October 23, TikTok user @bigbrah1 uploaded a video of her opening the door to the secret room she found in her house. The clip shows the walls painted in pink, green, and white. There were also butterfly drawings, hand prints, and paintings that looked as though they were drawn by children. Whilst you may already consider the above description to be creepy, what really freaked viewers out was the words "Love Shack" written on the wall. Many expressed their eerie feelings in the comments. One user wrote: "Absolute weirdest vibes... love shack? The feet?" "Is this adorable or terrifying?" "The way I was smiling then immediately my face dropped and I became physically ill" a user commented, sharing the sentiments of most users. In an update video, the user shared that she had converted it into a storage room and thrown out the drawings that were found in the room. She did, however, share that that room could have only been for children, by attempting to stand up in the room and showing that she had to hunch. If you’ve used Google today, you may have noticed the typical logo on the search engine has been jazzed up as it pays tribute to the Spanish Romani flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya. The Google Doodle features bright colours and the animated figure of Amaya in a pose with her hands flared in a way that reflects the traditional style of dance she performed. On 2 November, it marks what would have been Amaya's 110th birthday and was illustrated by the Barcelona-based artist Genie Espinoza. Who is Carmen Amaya? Born on 2 November 1913 in Barcelona, Amaya was born into a family of flamenco dancers. Her father played the guitar and by the time she was 4 years old, she was already dancing in tavernas whilst he played. Her unique and expressive dance style eventually caught the attention of a showrunner, who booked her to perform in prestigious venues such as the Spanish Theatre in Barcelona and Paris’ Palace Theatre. In 1929, when Amaya was in her mid-teens, she began touring Spain and Portugal with some of the world’s most renowned flamenco dancers. While other dancers in the genre focused on the movements of their upper body and arms, Amaya utilised her whole body. In addition, her rapid footwork became a known trademark of her unique style, which drew fans from across Latin America. Amaya settled in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and formed her own flamenco troupe which toured around South America. Next, after more than a decade of touring, she moved to Mexico City. In 1941, Amaya performed in New York where she won over the US President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who later invited her to dance at the White House. Towards the end of her career, she spent time in Hollywood, acting in films such as La Historia de los Tarantos. Over the years, Amaya’s legacy has been recognised by her home country of Spain. She was awarded the Medal of the Tourist Merit of Barcelona and in the city’s Montuic Park, there is a monument and a fountain in her honour. Halloween 2023 was the year celebrities went above and beyond with their outfits, with many cosplaying as fellow A-listers. Social media feeds were filled with a swarm of Britneys, while Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne dressed as Kanye West and his wife in her 'pillow outfit'. The Rock almost instantly went viral after sporting a Manchester United shirt as David Beckham, too. Beckham himself was impressed by the former wrestler's efforts and left a comment on his Instagram post. "I mean I thought I was looking in the mirror. Looking good man you might need a bigger jersey," he wrote. He went on to share the photo on his own Instagram page, where it racked up thousands of likes and comments. Iconic, yes. But, attention soon turned to the football shirt with some commenting that it was fake. Plenty of people will have daydreamed about getting revenge on their ex – but few can say they got their mum to knock them out cold for them. That is, however, exactly what happened for one person after a brutal cage fight took place in Poland recently. It came during the event organised by Clout MMA in the city of Plock, which included the latest in a run of bizarre MMA fights in the country and across Eastern Europe. There, a 50-year-old mother went toe to toe with a 19-year-old who had previously been dating her son. The older woman, named Małgorzata Zwierzyńska, took on Nikola Alokin in a cage fight for the event. It’s pretty common to see bad blood fights like this one over recent times, but the match between the pair might be the strangest yet. Zwierzyńska, also referred to as Goha Magical, is TikTok famous in Poland and she creates videos with her son, known as Daniel Magical. The bout saw the Zwierzyńska knock Alokin down to the ground in the first round, which contributed to the fight ending two rounds later when Alokin refused to keep fighting. Elon Musk has attracted the ire of film fans everywhere after making a Blade Runner reference that backfired on him. The Tesla billionaire and owner of Twitter/X made a passing comment about the seminal 80s sci-fi classic directed by Ridley Scott, which was quickly pounced upon by cinephiles on social media. Musk was responding to a clip of Joe Rogan shooting the highly-anticipated Tesla Cybertruck with a bow and arrow – which is one of the stranger moments from Musk’s recent appearance on his podcast this week. Speaking about the vehicle – which Tesla fans have been waiting years for, and is finally being sent out to customers “next month” according to Musk – Musk made reference to the film. “It’s an armored personnel carrier from the future – what Bladerunner would have driven,” he wrote, responding to footage of the moment with Rogan. Referencing a classic sci-fi movie would be no big deal, normally. However, people were quick to point out that the main character played by Harrison Ford was not, in fact, called Bladerunner. Instead, the character was called Rick Deckard – and it left some film fans convinced Musk has never seen the film or he’s misunderstood it. Writing on Twitter/X, one user responded by writing: “Just taking a moment here to appreciate that Elon Musk thinks the main character in Blade Runner is a guy called ‘Bladerunner’”. A TikToker has reportedly been arrested after posing as a doctor online and for attempting to gain access to a hospital. Matthew Lani posted videos, which have since been deleted, allegedly claiming that he was a medical professional and giving health advice to his followers. He also claimed to have received a medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, which has since been dismissed by the uni. The South African said he was a doctor in Johannesburg, but he was apprehended by police after reportedly attempting to get past security staff at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg. He is said to have attempted to bluff his way into the building by wearing a stethoscope and a surgical mask. Then, after being followed by law enforcement officers, he tried to escape by jumping out of a bathroom window before being detained. The Gauteng province’s Department of Health released a statement saying: “Lani was caught just before 8pm disguised in a hoodie and wearing a surgical mask with a stethoscope around his neck. "He had previously entered the same facility to curate misleading content under the pretence that he was a qualified doctor." Since the National Prosecuting Authority released a statement, stating that Lani had been released as it had “no evidence” to charge him. NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said: "With the evidence currently contained in the docket, we had to decide as the prosecution if there are any prospects of a successful prosecution or not, and having to do that simply meant that we had to differentiate and make a decision with what is before us. "If we say that we have a person that can say they lied or are we having a person that has misrepresented, if we alleged that a person has misrepresented, then that must be followed by actual or potential prejudice. "So, currently, in the information contained in the docket, we don't have such information hence, we have given instructions for investigations that must be complied with. Once it’s done, the docket can be brought back to the NPA for a decision."
