F-35 memes go viral as US military searches for missing jet
F-35 memes go viral as US military searches for missing jet
The United States military managed to lose an F-35 fighter jet and the missing plane has become an instant meme. On Sunday 17 September, the $80 million F-35 military jet went missing after the pilot ejected from the cockpit during a “mishap” and the plane remained on auto-pilot. The pilot abandoned the plane somewhere over South Carolina and safely landed in a neighbourhood in North Charleston. The plane itself remained airborne and on auto-pilot for some time, making it difficult for the authorities to locate it. Officials have now reportedly found the debris from the wreckage of the Marine Corps jet in a South Carolina field. It follows a day-long search in which the military asked for the public's help to locate it, causing quite a stir on social media. Pretty quickly, people came up with hilarious memes about the plane’s disappearance. One person joked: “Can’t wait to see the new @TomCruise documentary about the F-35 - ‘Lost Gun’.” Someone else said: “It was an $80 million F-35 that they publicly asked if anyone had seen ffs.” Officials have requested that members of the public stay away from the crash site as they investigate what happened. In a statement, officials said: “Members of the community should avoid the area as the recovery team secures the debris field. “The mishap is currently under investigation, and we are unable to provide additional details to preserve the integrity of the investigative process. We would like to thank all of our mission partners, as well as local, county, and state authorities, for their dedication and support throughout the search and as we transition to the recovery phase.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Passenger's wild sprint to get off flight first sparks plane debate
Passenger's wild sprint to get off flight first sparks plane debate
A viral clip of a passenger racing off a plane after landing has sparked a debate about the etiquette involved in disembarking a flight. The clip was shared on Instagram by user @shigga__, who captioned the video: “I’m literally top 5 plane unboarder no troll.” They also overlaid the clip of their disembarkment with the words: “POV: you have zero patience when getting off planes.” In the video taken onboard a landed plane, they filmed themselves getting out of their seat with their bag in their hand as soon as the seatbelt light was switched off. They quickly made their way down the aisle as other passengers stood up to retrieve their bags from the overhead bins. The person filming squeezed past others who were gathering their bags together in preparation for the plane doors to be opened. The video has been viewed 9.8 million times. In the comments, Instagrammers were divided, with some defending their behaviour, while others said it was “bottom tier”. One person commented: “You’re the problem.” “Unless you’re about to miss your connecting flight this ish is uncalled for,” someone else argued. “Bottom tier individual,” wrote another. But, there were some in the comments who understood his actions. One person argued: “Everyone saying this is wrong needs to think for a second… 1. He is at the back of the plane. 2. He had his things already ready and got up as soon as they landed. 3. Everyone on that plane has two options… get their s**t faster and be more organised or let those who are ready and have minimal luggage off / through first… “He’s not being a d**k… you’re just mad coz you’re slow and have 3 kids screaming constantly half way through the flight and have to spend £15 for a small tub of Pringles and water.” Someone else said: “Why y’all mad at him for lmao he doing what everyone else NEEDS to do.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. The 18-year-old from near Adelaide in Australia went viral on TikTok after revealing in videos that “nobody came” to the opening of his cafe. Text overlaying the clip read: “Opened a cafe and nobody came.” In the comments, people encouraged the young business owner to keep going and not to get disheartened. “Bro we started 6 months ago stay positive show up for yourself and it will happen!! time is a curse and your friend. trust the process,” one TikToker commented. Another person said: “If I was in Adelaide I would be there in a heartbeat! Woman praised for refusing to give 'priority' train seat to 'elderly' passenger
Woman praised for refusing to give 'priority' train seat to 'elderly' passenger
A woman has been praised in a viral online post after relaying her experience on board a train. After posting on Reddit, she received support for her actions after deciding not to give up her seat in first class for an older woman who demanded she move. The woman was travelling from London to Aberdeen and decided to pay for a first class ticket in order to work better during the journey. After joining the train, she realised her reserved seat was the priority seat in first class. A woman in her 60s then got on the train and demanded that she give her the seat. Writing on Reddit, she said: "I recently got a train across the UK from London to Aberdeen. It's a seven-hour journey so I booked myself a first-class seat well in advance.” She added: "I got on the train in London and sat in my seat. The seat they'd assigned me was also the 'priority seat'. Priority seats are the ones at the end of carriages for people with mobility issues due to age or disability. A woman got on after me who was around 60 years old pointed at the sign above my head and, quite rudely, told me to move because she was 'elderly'. "I told her I'd booked the seat and she'd need to speak to a member of staff to find her one. She pointed out that the train was full and there were no other seats. I apologised but reiterated that I'd booked the seat and wasn't going to move." The awkward situation continued when a guard came over. The Reddit post continued: "Eventually, a train guard came over to try to help. The lady had booked a return ticket, but she hadn't reserved a specific seat. For those who don't know how trains work, if you have a ticket but haven't also booked a seat reservation, it means you can travel on a train, but you aren't guaranteed a seat unless there's one available. "He asked if either of us would consider moving to standard class if he could find us a seat. I again refused, explaining I'd booked the seat well in advance and that I needed it. Eventually, he took the woman to standard class and I assume found her a seat there. "I felt bad, but I also don't think I needed to put myself in severe discomfort because someone else didn't think ahead and reserve a seat." The woman was praised for standing her ground and not giving up the seat she had paid extra for a reserved in good time. One criticised the operating company in the comments section, writing: “The train company are the a******* here. They sold the disability seats as the most expensive seats on the train. Then they tried to get the person who bought those seats to move to standard.” Another added: “NTA- like you said you reserved the seat and needed it for many valid reasons, the lady isn't entitled to the seat you paid for simply because she is elderly.” One more commented: “Train attendant here. NTA. You booked and paid for that specific seat. If the lady had specific requirements, she should have booked and stated as such in her reservation.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Influencer responds to criticism for demanding commuters wait for her when filming on tube
An influencer has been criticised for complaining about commuters getting in her way as she posed for photos in front of a tube on the London Underground. In the viral video from last year, TikToker Antonia Freya Lydia (@turnttoni) attempted to show off her black feather strapless dress in a clip but this proved to be challenging as people were walking along the platform. "Taking an aesthetic video in London Underground be like," she wrote in the on-screen text as people walked past and blocked her shot. She added in the caption: "Like can yoh wait just one sec, sir." @turnttoni like can yoh wait just one sec, sir? #fy #foryou #london #underground Since sharing the video, it went with 8.9m views where people took to the comment section and didn't hold back on their thoughts. One person said: "Some people actually use the station to get to places instead of taking insta photos crazy right?!?" "GIRL IT’S A TRAIN STATION—" another person wrote. A third person added: "You know people have to go to work and they're not going to stop their lives for you. Don't want people around, go someplace private." "If you were in a wide open space this would make sense but… in a TRAIN STATION?!" a fourth commented. Someone else replied: "Imagine doing this at Oxford Circus and expecting people to get out of your way." While a few defended the influencer too "Don’t think she knew it was gonna be that busy and she is probably joking lol," one person wrote. Someone else replied: "Idk about y’all but i understand her completely." But this wasn't the end of the matter... The debate was reignited when Twitter user @schizarella (not Antonia in the original video) weighed in with their thoughts after the clip was reposted on the platform on Sunday. "When you see someone recording just walk behind the camera or wait literally ten seconds, if you can't do this then you don't deserve to be part of a civilized society," they wrote in a post that has since become unavailable to view. It prompted many people to disagree and criticise the influencer for her actions - here are some of the comments. In a recent TikTok, Antonia aka the influencer in the original video responded to a critical comment saying they couldn't believe she was complaining about people getting in her shot, and called her content "lame." @turnttoni Replying to @sop excuse me, what do you mean? #fy #foryou #subway To which Antonia replied with a video filled with different snaps of herself all over the world and in different outfits where she seemed to be unbothered as she wrote: "wait.... lame?" Then, she wrote in the caption: "excuse me, what do you mean?" Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Are Crocs being banned from airports?
Are Crocs being banned from airports?
Crocs shoes have grown massively in popularity and many fans of the foam shoes might be distressed by a rumour that they are being banned in some public places. The clog-shaped foam shoes have become a mainstay in fashion culture thanks to celebrity endorsements and the notorious levels of comfort they provide. It is thanks to their comfort that many people choose to wear them on long flights and on shopping trips where they will be on their feet a lot. But, rumours have begun spreading online that the shoes are being banned in places like airports and malls. One post on X/Twitter, claimed: “Crocs are Being Banned from Airports, Train Stations and Shopping Centres.” Another said: “Many places like airports, train stations, and malls have now banned them on escalators with posted warnings.” “Crocs have been banned from escalators in some airports, train stations and shopping centres after a series of scary incidents,” alleged another post. Is the Crocs ban rumour true? Thankfully, the rumours that Crocs are being banned in airports and train stations are not true and you are free to keep wearing them wherever you choose. However, in the past, warnings about escalators and Crocs have been issued it was revealed in 2006 by ABC that children wearing them were having their feet sucked into the edge of escalators. The report detailed a scary incident in which a child damaged her toe. Other reports have revealed that children have lost their toes and even damaged the ligaments in their legs after their Crocs were pulled down the side of an escalator. Sisters go viral after their TikTok is compared to a 'coming of age movie'
A TikTok has gone viral after viewers called it a "coming of age movie" and joked that the girls featured in it should be "nominated for an Academy Award". The video, originally uploaded to TikTok account @palmview956, which has since been removed and re-uploaded to the family's new account, has over 1 million views on TikTok. The video starts with a young girl, Valentina, participating in the 'Get Unready With Me' trend, but as she starts one of her young sisters runs in asking for scissors and then runs out again. A few seconds later a scream is heard and the girl's two younger sisters run into her room, and you can see that one sister, Khaleesi, cut her sister, Camilla's, hair. As the girls begin shouting, accusing one another of being in the wrong, Valentina tells them to be quiet after their mum can be heard off-camera asking if everything is okay. When the mum's suspicions are seemingly down, Valentina tells Khaleesi through her teeth "close the door now", whilst looking at Camilla's hair and trying to salvage it. "Tomorrow's picture day!" Camilla says, before Khaleesi hands her the cut piece of her. Valentina scolds them saying, "why are you laughing! I told you not to do anything stupid!" She then proceeds to search 'how to cut bangs', attempting to rectify the situation as all eldest sisters do. However, not before the youngest daughter comes running in saying "ooh you're in trouble!" Valentina however manages to buy the youngest girl's silence with... a cookie. Valentina manages to cut some bangs that look great, which Camilla initially agrees with until saying "what have you done to my life". Eventually the mum walks in demanding to know what is going on. The sisters are all giggling trying to insist that it is nothing, until they eventually give in and show the new haircut. They try and blame it on one another, until Camilla is demanded by her mother to show her dad her hair, to which Valentina says to the camera "pray for them," before ending the video. @palmview956oficial GURWM gone wrong.. The tweet has been viewed over 100 million times. Some called it "cinema", others compared it to Louisa May Alcott's famous novel 'Little Women', which follows four sisters. Other elder sisters also attested to this being a key part of the experience. Even Halle Berry loved the video: Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Andrew Tate supports Russell Brand as comedian denies ‘very serious allegations’
Andrew Tate has sent a message of support to Russell Brand after the comedian denied “very serious allegations” made against him in a recent YouTube video. The self-proclaimed misogynist and controversial influencer responded after Brand posted a clip telling viewers he "absolutely refute[s]" the allegations made towards him ahead of two media outlets apparently planning to reveal claims later today (September 16). Brand also said in the clip that while he was "very promiscuous" in the past, the relationships were "always consensual". Brand said in the clip: "Now, this isn't the usual type of video we make on this channel where we critique, attack and undermine the news in all its corruption because in this story, I am the news." He went on to say that he has received "two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email". One allegedly coming from a "mainstream media TV company" and the other "from a newspaper". He went on to describe the allegations put against him as "extremely egregious and aggressive attacks". Tate posted an image of a knight preparing for battle with the caption: “On my way to fight the crazy b**** allegations.” He added the words “Welcome to the club” before tagging Brand. Tate also responded to the video posted by Brand, calling it a “Matrix attack”. Tate, is currently charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women. He will stand trial on these charges in Romania. Photo of 'MrBeast' flying in economy has fans concerned he's broke
A photo of MrBeast shared by the streaming platform Kick asleep on a plane has fans concerned that the most subscribed YouTuber on the planet is broke. MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, has a reported net worth of $100 million but has spoken in the past about how much money he loses when filming his highly produced and expensive YouTube videos as well as having his own Feastables and MrBeast burger ranges and advertising and sponsorship deals. However, fans have been alarmed at an apparent image of the 25-year-old asleep on a plane while flying in economy class when he could easily afford to fly in the more lavish business seats in first class or even on a private jet. The image which has since gone viral saw Kick say on their X/Twitter account "bro wtf MrBeast doing in economy?" without any indication as to whether the person in the picture was actually the YouTuber or not. Many fans of MrBeast have since latched onto the photo asking if he is in financial trouble while others weren't convinced. Dexerto have reported that the person in the picture could be a lookalike while a community note on a Drama Alert tweet also stated that there was no proof that MrBeast was actually in the photo, while also stating that it was actually a Taiwanese airline and not a Spirit Airlines plane. MrBeast is yet to respond to the image but it is highly unlikely that he is broke given that his most recent YouTube video has more than 98 million views. Regardless even if it is him, just because he's very rich doesn't mean he has to spend frivolously or think that he is above anyone else on a plane. 'Embarrassed' mum speaks out after son's 'mile high club' video goes viral
The mother of a young man caught joining the mile-high club on an EasyJet flight has spoken out against his antics. The viral clip, which has made rounds across social media, shows a flight attendant opening the plane's toilet door and revealing two travellers at it to the entire plane. Fellow passengers can be heard cheering and laughing, as the staff member stands there in utter shock. The 23-year-old has since been identified as Piers Sawyer, who was travelling to Ibiza to celebrate his birthday. According to his mum, Elaine, he had only met the woman at the airport before boarding the flight. "I was watching Loose Women and they were talking about it on there, and some of Piers’s friends started sending me the clip," the 51-year-old told The Sun. "It’s not something a mum wants to see." She went on to say that her son "doesn't want to talk about it," and that "he probably just wants to forget it." Elaine continued: "You’re aware these things are going to happen at the holiday destination but you don’t expect it to happen on the flight." "But he’s a 23-year-old single lad on his birthday, going to Ibiza. It’s a party plane," Elaine added. "You just don’t think about stuff sometimes. Yes, it’s embarrassing but I don’t think they were doing anyone any harm." She went on to suggest that the member of staff "shouldn't have just opened the door," adding: "The whole flight was egging him on and even he was laughing." A spokesperson for EasyJet said: "We can confirm that this flight from Luton to Ibiza on 8 September was met by police on arrival due to the behaviour of two passengers onboard." 'Talking dog' goes viral but people are worried she's too intelligent
'Talking dog' goes viral but people are worried she's too intelligent
A ‘talking’ dog who can express their feelings and needs by pushing buttons has gone viral on TikTok – but users are worried she may be “too intelligent”. Three-year-old, red fox Labrador Retriever, Copper uses augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to communicate with its owner, Tia Herrell, 52. The buttons cover everything from wanting to eat, drink, play, go to the toilet, and even help Copper express feelings, such as worry. In a video that has gone viral on TikTok with 19 million views, Copper uses her buttons to show she is concerned moments after Tia was coughing. The clip shows Copper use a button which shouts ‘Worried’, to which Tia uses a button that says ‘Why’. Clever Copper moves to another button and says ‘Mommy’. Tia says: “You’re worried about Mommy?’ and taps the buttons for ‘Why? Worried. Mommy.’ Copper repeatedly clicks a button that says ‘Sound’ – and Tia immediately puts two and two together that she is concerned by her coughing. @thechattylab Want stranger? I think Copper wanted to be the center of attention. #talkingdogsoftiktok #dogtok She quickly taps the button for ‘Ouch’, but assures Copper she is fine. Tia has been teaching Copper how to communicate after reading about a speech-language pathologist using a similar method with her pet. She ordered some recordable buttons online and built the talking board. “Copper started with buttons when she was four months old and it really helped her with potty training,” Tia, a fellow speech-language pathologist from California, US, told NeedToKnow.co.uk. “She took to it very quickly and started using the buttons the first week. “Since then she has learned to use the buttons to request different toys, ask where family members are, ask for a treat, tell how she's feeling, tell someone if she's worried, ask to go for a ride, ask where her human sister Savannah is, and more. “It's been really fun and surprising to see Copper's personality change over time. “When she was younger, she talked about her toys and playing a lot of the time. Now she talks way more about her family and how she feels. “I think that Copper is very emotional and loves her family immensely. “I would say that Copper is extremely emotionally intelligent. “She's able to identify her own emotions and sometimes others’ emotions.” @thechattylab When you gotta go, you gotta go! #dogtok #smartdog #talkingdogsoftiktok Over two million people liked the video, taking to the comments section to share their thoughts – with some dubbing Copper the “Einstein of dogs” and others expressing concern over her skills. One user commented: “It's getting too intelligent.” “HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, I MADE ME SIT UP IN MY BED,” another person said. “This is so wild,” another user agreed. Someone else said: “Now that is pure love.” “I’d be getting that cough checked.. that fur baby looks like he’s lost a best friend. But seriously, this is so sweet & hope ur 100% okay!” said another viewer. [sic] “Ok that’s the Einstein of dogs right there lol,” added one fan. Someone else commented: “If this is not the sweetest thing.” “The fact that dogs can understand the meaning and concept of worry is what surprises me,” said another user. “Their so much smarter then we realize,” another person added.
