Mysterious arrow-shaped UFO spotted rotating in air leaves experts 'concerned'
A mysterious arrow-shaped UFO has been spotted rotating in the air. The authorities have vowed to analyse them. The images were taken near the small town of El Escorial, Chubut, Argentina. Photos show the suspected alien craft hovering above the Patagonian plains in both horizontal and vertical positions. Local journalist Calaverita Mateos shared the images on social media with the message: “The best photos of a UFO in Chubut.” He added: “Photos sent to me by a resident in the area who asked to remain anonymous.” In the comments section, Mateos said his friend is a “field researcher” in the area who was concerned about having his name exposed. The authorities said they will gather a team of experts to analyse them and provide an update at a later date. Many locals were impressed, with one joking: “They are among us.” Another said: “Why does the cameraperson want to remain anonymous? “The photos are incredible, if they are real. I find it strange that he doesn't want to speak publicly.” Miguel wrote: “This has to be seen by the Aerospace Verification Centre to corroborate their authenticity. “At first glance, they’re very impressive. There are other organisations that can study these.” Marcela pleaded: “Take me.” Jaimo joked: “It’s the Millennium Falcon.” However, Carlos commented: “They’re fake.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Baseball fans have a weird crush on the Mrs Met mascot
Baseball fans have a weird crush on the Mrs Met mascot
Social media users have made it clear they have a big thing for a baseball mascot, but unfortunately, she’s a married woman. Mrs. Met is one half of the New York Mets baseball team’s husband and wife mascot duo. For years, Mrs. Met has been lusted over by fans and received multiple marriage proposals in spite of her taken status. And, it seems people’s crushes on her show no sign of stopping after people on the social media platform X/Twitter had some thoughts on a recent photograph of her. In the picture, Mrs. Met could be seen grabbing some food with her Mr. Met at the Citi Field stadium in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park. They both wore the Mets baseball gear including tight trousers and caps. Soon, the wholesome picture led to some not-so-wholesome comments being shared by some would-be homewreckers hilariously lusting over Mrs. Met. “Gyaaaaaatttttt! Thicker than oatmeal!!” one admirer commented. Another said: “Your husband will never fulfil you.” Someone else asked: “Can I say something without people getting mad?” “She kinda,” is all one person had to say to get their point across. The tweet has been viewed almost 25 million times and been bookmarked by almost 3,000 users who presumably want to remember the post for later. One person argued: “You all need to feel the warmth of an actual woman because there’s no way there should be this many bookmarks for a mascot.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletterHave your say in our news democracy. Marriage proposal at Super Mario World goes viral for Luigi's reaction
A marriage proposal at Super Nintendo World has gone viral online due to the character Luigi’s hilarious reaction. Fans of the Nintendo games have been able to enjoy the Super Nintendo World theme park at Universal Studios in California since it opened in early 2023. For one superfan, he decided it was the perfect time and place for a wedding proposal and the clip was shared online after being caught on camera. In the video, a man and woman could be seen standing between the dressed-up characters of Mario and Luigi. He got on one knee and opened a ring box to pop the question. While the character of Mario displayed the appropriate level of excitement by mimicking a look of excitement and shock, the Luigi character simply stood there with his hands on his hips. When Luigi noticed what was going on, his reaction was still fairly muted and it has left viewers in hysterics. @bellabelli260 #nintendoworld #supermario #proposal #universalstudioshollywood #engagement #happilyeverafter #engagementring #supernintendoworld #mariobros #california #hollywood #supernintendoworldhollywood #supernintendo #peaches #mario #luigi #engaged One person commented: “Luigi: I do not see it.” “Luigi did NOT care,” said another. Someone else wrote: “Luigi not noticing till later is cannon.” Another commented: “LUIGI IS SENDING ME.” Others commented on the sound effects in the background that come from the Super Mario Bros video game. One TikToker argued: “Can you imagine being proposed to and in the background Mario is just blabbing about 'its Mario time!’” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Mormon woman 'withdrawn' from church for selling bikini photos online
Mormon woman 'withdrawn' from church for selling bikini photos online
A mum who claims she was “shunned” by her Mormon community for sharing saucy snaps online now alleges to have received a letter being officially “withdrawn” from the church. Single mum-of-four Holly Jane is perhaps better known as the ‘Mormon Mistress’, pulling in £35,400 ($45,000) a month with 211,000 followers on Instagram. Despite receiving backlash from people in her community, Holly has stuck to her guns and continued to take and share racy photos and videos. And it seems the church finally had enough. For the first time, the mum is opening up about a lengthy letter she claims to have received from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which states that her membership would be terminated due to “conduct contrary to the laws and order of the Church”. “I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong,” Holly, who lives in California, US, told NudePR.com. “I knew there was a possibility I would be excommunicated but I thought there would be some other form of reprimanding. “I was surprised they were that harsh. God supports me; I am celebrating the body he created in a tactful and classy way. "I’m a good person and a good mum, it’s all legal and I’m having a good time and working hard.” Holly claims that after her local bishop was made aware of her account, he visited her house in an attempt to convince her to stop. She said: “He lives under a rock and was referring to me like a prostitute. He said to choose between your career and your membership with the church.” Unable to convince him that she was posting with ‘God’s support’, she avoided the bishop but soon received notice that the ‘council’ would be meeting to discuss next steps. Holly said: “I was made aware there was a meeting but I didn’t go because I had nothing to say that would sway them in my favour. I’m not quitting and I disagree that it affects people in the church.” Receiving a letter, Holly was informed that she had been excommunicated from the church and her membership revoked. At the time – the letter was sent last year but she has only now revealed it – she was given 30 days to appeal the decision. The letter read: “We have determined that your membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is withdrawn 'Those whose Church membership has been withdrawn may not enjoy any privileges of membership. "However, they are encouraged to attend Church meetings and activities if their conduct is orderly." Holly says it is “very rare” for this to happen within the church community. She added: “It’s very rare for someone to lose their membership. “It's like the Pope messaging you and saying ‘you’re done’. “I feel lost, my daughters keep asking to meet people and go to church. “I don’t understand why it has anything to do with my membership – because I take my clothes off online I should no longer partake in the benefits of the church, partake of the sacrament or enter temple.” Continuing to practice the Mormon faith at home, Holly gets her revenge by continuing sharing photos and videos on her page. She added: “I have millions of views making Instagram reels of me flashing my panties. I have had a couple of people quoting Bible verses and asking ‘how I call myself a Christian’ – but it’s no different from him subscribing. “Everyone sins, others aren’t being held accountable or being told they no longer add value to the church.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. iShowSpeed ends stream after accidentally flashing camera
iShowSpeed ended a recent stream suddenly after accidentally exposing himself to fans live on air. The hugely popular figure was broadcasting to 24,000 people when he accidentally flashed the camera, looking shocked after realising what he’d done instantly. The streamer stood up, showing his crotch, not realising that his penis was exposed. “Oh my god,” he said, before immediately ending the stream. The moment sparked a big reaction on social media and became an instant meme. Some have speculated that the YouTuber could have his account banned for the incident, with the platform’s policies prohibiting content that includes “the depiction of clothed or unclothed genitals, breasts, or buttocks that are meant for sexual gratification”. It comes after iShowSpeed has opened up about the health crisis that saw him rushed to hospital, saying that he “almost died”. The influencer was in hospital for weeks after being taken to a Japanese hospital in July for a sinus infection which caused a "deadly headache”. The influencer, real name Darren Watkins Jr, previously posted footage of himself with one eye closed and the other severely swollen. His followers have been showing support for the 18-year-old, with fans previously arriving outside of his hospital in Tokyo. Ben Shapiro is now upset because a white person isn’t playing Snow White
Ben Shapiro is now upset because a white person isn’t playing Snow White
Ben Shapiro is moaning about children’s films again – this time about Snow White. Just weeks after ranting about Barbie and being entirely incorrect when predicting it would flop at the box office, the conservative pundit has hit out at Disney’s decision to cast a Latin actor to play Snow White. Rachel Zegler will play the princess in the upcoming live-action remake of the classic animation. The 22-year-old actor, who is of Colombian and Polish descent, is known for roles in West Side Story and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Criticising the casting, Shapiro said: “They’ve cast Snow White. Snow White is now going to be played by Rachel Zegler. OK?” “Now, Rachel Zegler, you may know ― again, her name is Snow White. Now, you might consider that racist, but that’s also the name of the actual fairytale.” He went on to say that [in] “the original… Snow White, the character is specifically described as having 'skin white as snow'". Shapiro added: “[The word ‘white’] is literally in her name. That’s why she has her name. So I guess just to like, screw with people, they’re casting ― Rachel Zegler’s a very talented person. It’s weird casting, you might say.” Zegler’s casting was announced, but new pictures from behind the scenes of the production were recently released, sparking new conversation around the film. Fellow conservative pundit and Daily Wire colleague Matt Walsh also criticised the casting on his show, throwing a strop and saying it amounts to “anti-white racism”. One social media user seemed to sum up the whole thing by writing: “Have these guys considered getting a f***ing life.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman scammed into thinking she was dating a Stranger Things actor
Woman scammed into thinking she was dating a Stranger Things actor
A woman was scammed into thinking she was dating an actor from Stranger Things and ended up divorcing her husband and sending money to the scammer. The ordeal suffered by McKala, a single mother from Kentucky, was shared on the YouTube show Catfished, where it was revealed she believed she was in a secret online relationship with Australian actor Dacre Montgomery, who plays Billy Hargrove in the Netflix series. Over a year, McKala shared online messages with a person she sincerely believed was Montgomery, despite never having seen or even spoken to him on the phone. McKala, an amateur actress and filmmaker, wanted so desperately to be with “Montgomery” that she filed for divorce from her husband and began sending him gift cards worth thousands of dollars. When she began to question how genuine their relationship was, McKala sought the help of the show Catfished. She explained how she had separated from her “very toxic” husband and joined an online creatives group, where she believes she met and “hit it off” with a user who later claimed to be Montgomery. McKala said: “I’m suspicious from the get-go, until he starts doing things that make me believe he is who he is.” In real life, Montgomery has been in a relationship with the model Liv Pollock since 2017, but McKala claimed the person she was talking to claimed the couple were unhappy and having issues. “He was venting to me after a few months about his partner, saying she is very controlling of him. He doesn’t get to do the things he wants to do. She’s always there. She’s always got to supervise,” she explained, “I kind of empathise with that because my ex-husband was that way.” After exchanging messages online for months, “Montgomery” asked McKala to be his girlfriend, despite the real Montgomery still being with his girlfriend. Victim Divorces Husband For Stranger Things Romance Scammer! www.youtube.com McKala was told that the pair were actually separated, but just keeping up appearances. She was further convinced by their lack of visibility on each other’s social media. She said: “He wasn’t posting about her. She wasn’t posting about him. The only thing that I have seen in the last two years...was a thing where she was posting about their five-year anniversary.” McKala dismissed the Catfished team’s concerns that she hadn’t spoken to him on the phone, arguing that his girlfriend was controlling and always “glued at his hip”. He sent her poetry, told her to watch Stranger Things and gave her an ultimatum between her husband and him. “Before I knew it, it was turning into $100, $200 gift cards,” she explained and estimated that in total she sent him around $10,000 worth. The Catfished team broke the news to McKala that there was no evidence the actor and his girlfriend were broken up, he made $150,000 per episode of Stranger Things and did not need gift cards. Investigations showed the cheque he had sent her was false and taken from the internet and even the lasagna he allegedly made was actually a picture taken from a Martha Stewart recipe. McKala was left heartbroken by the discovery but admitted that she was vulnerable to being taken advantage of by a scammer in this way. She explained: “If you’re someone like me, you’re afraid of abandonment and you’re a real big people pleaser and you’re very co-dependent... These scammers, they just kind of come in and they leech off that.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Spider-Man: Lotus: The 6 biggest talking points from controversial fan film
Spider-Man: Lotus: The 6 biggest talking points from controversial fan film
Spider-Man: Lotus is one of the most talked-about films of the year, but not necessarily for the right reasons. The fan film with a budget of $100,000 has proven to be hugely controversial in the months leading up to its release. The trailer generated a lot of buzz back in 2021, but it took until June 2022 for the first of the controversies to be unearthed. Back then, an anonymous twitter user shared screenshots of messages from Warden Wayne, the man cast to play Peter Parker in the movie, using racial slurs. Wayne was quick to post a lengthy apology to Twitter blaming his past behaviour on being “raised in a homeschool conservative environment in a small town in Arkansas.” Writer and director of the film Gavin J. Konop also came in for criticism after Twitter user @Berkmanboom shared screenshots of Konop using racial and homophobia slurs In a YouTube video that addressed the controversies facing the film titled “Addressing Everything”, Konop attempted to explain his past actions as well as claiming some of the screenshots were fake. “In my first couple years of high school, I’m gonna be honest I was pretty much a giant loser. I was online way too much, I was part of these group chats and communities where I very often said the most offensive things I could think of to get attention from people.” He also said that he takes “full responsibility” for his actions and admits that he knew “I was wrong, I wasn't raised knowing these things were not okay to say.” Spider-Man: Lotus (Fan-Film) www.youtube.com In the few days since it was made available to watch on YouTube it has been viewed more than 2 million times – but there are some who will have been put off by details behind the scenes clouding the film’s production. Lotus takes place in the aftermath of Gwen Stacy’s death and focuses on Peter Parker as he deals with the fallout. Many will be wondering how it stacks up - these are the biggest talking points about the film itself, aside from the controversy behind the scenes, and some of the biggest criticisms aimed at it over recent days. Overall length and long establishing shots One of the most common points made about the film is that it’s just too long. It’s close to an hour and 45 minutes in length and there is too much padding – a lot of it coming in the form of generic shots of New York. Turning Peter Parker into a completely unsympathetic character Parker deals with the death of Gwen Stacy by lashing out at others a lot of the time. That in itself wouldn’t be an issue, as many people might do the same in such a stark situation. However, some social media users have claimed that Parker in Lotus is a fundamentally unsympathetic character. Ultimately, any film would be close to unwatchable when the superhero himself is an insufferable character who continuously puts others down. This moment early on in the film which shows Mary Jane coming to check on him in a show of support, only for him to unload a character assassination her way, is one that shows exactly the point they’re making. Parker's conversation with a terminally ill child is all about himself There’s one extended sequence people have focused on in social media discourse, and that’s the moment Spider-Man “trauma dumps” on a young boy with terminal cancer. After receiving a letter explaining a super fan of his is unwell, Parker goes to see him twice. The first scene had the potential to be quite a sweet moment in the film, but instead, Peter Parker seems to reject the child’s love of Spider-Man and questions why the kid is a fan of his and not Captain America, before talking about Gwen Stacy’s death. “It’s my fault…” he says. “I can’t do anything about it, no matter how hard you try. I’m not the hero you think I am. All of this, it’s not me.” He then dismisses the young boy's feelings and tells him he doesn’t understand because he’s “just a kid”, before leaving. It feels a little strange tonally and again shows Parker's lack of self-awareness to consider the feelings of a terminally ill child before his own. He later returns and apologises, looking back at a load of his old adventures and sparking a series of flashbacks, giving him fresh determination to wear the suit, but the sequence has attracted some criticism online. Parker’s dress sense It’s a minor gripe one, for sure, but some people have pointed out that the fact Parker dresses like a trust fund kid at a yacht club dinner goes against the key principles of the character familiar to many from the comics. The CGI The opening few minutes feature some of the strongest moments of the entire film – and it’s pretty impressive to see this version of Spider-Man navigate New York. But while it’s unfair to criticise a fan film that costs relatively little to make for its CGI, it is true that some moments look great while others, less so. Even CGI in multi-million dollar films can look cheap at times, though, so it’s not surprising that fans used to the biggest productions would pick faults with some moments from Lotus. Others, however, did defend it. One viewer wrote: “No way people are complaining about the CGI in #SpiderManLotus. It’s literally a fan-made film. Hate all you want on it, but pointing out bad CGI in a fan-made film is just dumb.” A lack of action The film is very much a character piece, focusing on the personal relationships of Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Harry Osborne with lots of long, dialogue-heavy scenes, and some have pointed out that film is lacking in action sequences. The opening few minutes feature a short fight with the Shocker, and there’s a brief scuffle with the Green Goblin in a flashback sequence. However, some were left feeling that they expected more action from a Spider-Man film – even a fan-made one. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. AI has created celebrity Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games and they look amazing
2023 has so far been the year of artificial intelligence and although not all of its uses have been welcome it does appear to have come up with one good thing: celebrity fighting games. In the past few days, AI creations of two of the most popular beat-up franchises, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter have emerged on social media. However, rather than feature classic characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden these iterations feature exaggerated versions of famous faces from the real world. The first of these that went viral was Celebrity Mortal Kombat which was shared by the actual creator of the original game Ed Boon but was created by the YouTube channel Interdimensional TV. The celebrity version features: Joe Biden, Beyonce, Elvis Presley, Pope Francis, Angela Merkel, Donald Trump, LeBron James, Mark Zuckerberg, Kanye West, Xi Jinping, Oprah Winfrey, Albert Einstein, Kim Jung-Un, Jackie Chan, Hillary Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Stephen Hawking, Mother Teresa, Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O'Neill, Rihanna, William Shakespeare, Marilyn Monroe, George Washington, Gordon Ramsay, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Barack Obama, Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Queen Elizabeth II, Marie Curie, Taylor Swift, Mahatma Gandhi, The Rock and J Robert Oppenheimer. If that wasn't enough a Celebrity Mortal Kombat II video has also been made with an updated roster that Boon also shared. This one stars Will Smith, Greta Thunberg, Winston Churchill, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Steve Irwin, Mike Tyson, Nicki Minaj, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Jobs, Lionel Messi, Richard Nixon, Narendra Modi, Lizzo, Mr Rogers, Emma Watson, Kim Kardashian, Ellen Degeneres, Sylvester Stallone, Cardi B, Hunter Biden, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ice Cube, Usain Bolt, Mozart, Nicolas Cage, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, Joe Rogan, Notorious B.I.G, PewDiePie, Leonardo DaVinci, Chris Pratt, Margaret Thatcher, Frida Khalo, Mitch McConnell, Tesla, Justin Trudeau, Manny Pacquiao, Josef Stalin, Morgan Freeman and Chuck Norris. However, if you are more of a Street Fighter player then fear not as your interests have also been catered for. Many of the same faces from the Mortal Kombat game reappear but there are a few new characters such as Peter Dinklage, Miley Cyrus, Chris Farley and Johnny Depp. Sadly it doesn't look like we'll get to play these games anytime soon but we'll be first in line at the arcade should they become available.
