YouTuber uncovers dark adult version of SpongeBob made by show's creators
If you were a kid in the early 2000s, chances are you grew up watching the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants during your childhood. The loveable sea sponge and his best friend Patrick the starfish got up to all kinds of funny adventures, but now a dark adult version made by the show’s creators has found its way online. SpongeBob “Behind Closed Doors” is a book of NSFW pornographic drawings created by the cartoon show’s storyboard artists. The pictures that were never intended to see the light of day have now ended up online after they were recently uncovered by a lost media researcher this month. In a 2012 interview, the former writer and storyboard director at the show, Kent Osborne, revealed that such drawings existed and explained that there existed a book of NSFW, obscene depictions of SpongeBob SquarePants characters drawn by the storyboard artists. Osborne revealed: “At the end of the season, all the storyboard artists would do these hilarious, crude drawings of SpongeBob on Post-It notes just to make everyone else laugh.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter On 18 July, these images ended up being posted on YouTube by a user named LSuperSonicQ, who captioned the video: “The Darkest SpongeBob Lost Media, Found [Behind Closed Doors].” The video was about the book as the video creator revealed they were in touch with someone who had a copy of the NSFW document. It included a picture of the front cover and six images from inside the book which depicted characters from the cartoon engaging in sexual scenarios. The YouTuber also tweeted about the discovery, writing: “This is, the lost SpongeBob HOLY GRAIL https://youtu.be/mo1xHGhgjZQ “In the early 2000s, a dozen of SpongeBob's storyboard artists contributed inappropriate drawings to a book called Behind Closed Doors. “For over 20 years this was unknown to exist and never been seen until today.” indy100 has contacted Nickelodeon for comment. You can now watch Margot Robbie's 'Barbie' at a Miami beach house
Greta Gerwig's hotly anticipated Barbie is just around the corner, and fans are already ecstatic to watch Margot Robbie in action as the iconic doll. The film has already secured an impressive 89 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes with days to spare until its 21 July drop, as fans gear up to purchase cinema tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. But now, there's an even better way to watch Barbie, and it involves an immersive rooftop setting inspired by Miami Beach. Depot Mayfield in Manchester has undergone an incredible transformation for their summer screenings, complete with sand, sunshine and signature cocktails at the Flamingo Beach Bar. It comes after Backyard Cinema's success in London and Manchester last winter, prompting founder Dominic Davies to return for a summer filled with iconic specials, old and new. Barbie is among the showings, with dates from July through to August. There's also Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny, as well as Dirty Dancing, Grease, Back to the Future, The Little Mermaid (Remake), Top Gun Maverick, Mean Girls and Pulp Fiction and many more. "It is clear that people just can’t get enough of Barbie. Since releasing dates for our 'Barbie on the Beach' screenings we sold out over six dates in 24 hours and have had to add extra dates throughout August to meet demand," Dominic Davies, Founder and CEO of Backyard Cinema told Indy100. He continued: "While it might not be Malibu Beach, we are certainly bringing all things Barbiecore to our very own Miami Beach rooftop in Manchester, including a chance to take your photo inside a Barbie box. Satellite image has conspiracy theorists convinced Megalodon's still exist
Many on TikTok are convinced that the ‘megalodon’ still exists, after an old satellite image of the huge shark went viral. The earliest megalodon fossils date to approximately 20 million years ago, and went extinct 3.6 million years ago. Recently a satellite image has gained lots of attention on TikTok as users claim that a huge shark-like shadow that can be viewed beneath the ocean’s surface is in fact the extinct megalodon. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter One TikTok, from an account dedicated to creepy and unsettling sightings, says: “The following video is footage from a satellite. When you zoom in it appears to look similar to a shark.” The video proceeds to zoom into the shadow and compare to the size of a 40-foot yellow bus, emphasising the size. @theyrewatchingusnow MEGALODON STILL OUT THERE⁉️ Follow Back Up: @theyrewatchingusnow2 #ocean #megalodon #megalodon? #shark #deepoceanvideo #deepocean #scary #unexplored #atlanticocean #pacificocean #indianocean #oceans #conspirancytheory #oceancreatures #realfootage #greatwhiteshark #oceansecrets #creepy #sharkattack #sharksattack #fyp #fypシ #fypシ゚viral #foryoupage #foryou #foryourpage #foryourpages #foryouuuu #viral #virallllllllllllll #viralvideo #viralvideosofficial #oceanconspiracy #trending #screammovie The image has many viewers convinced that the extinct species exists: “Humans had to adapt to all world disasters repeatedly, do why would it be impossible for animals to adapt,” reads one comment. Another commented: “They’re absolutely still alive. The ocean is quite deep and we’ve only explored 5-10 per cent”. “People keep saying we would’ve found a meg by now but do you have any idea how little of the ocean we have discovered?” One commenter told sceptics. The clips used in the TikToks come from a video shared on YouTube by Discovery in 2014 (as seen above) as part of their Shark Week feature. The satellite image was captured by NASA and initially caused huge concern as it looked like an oil spill. It actually turned out to be a swarm of non-hazardous microbes. Whilst investigating the believed oil spill at the time, after the satellite image was zoomed in that shark-shaped shadow raised eyebrows. Almost 10 years later it’s still not clear what the shadow was, but it’s clear there’s still speculation on if it is in fact a megalodon. Have your say in our news democracy. Jordan Belfort's ex-wife says Margot Robbie's Wolf of Wall Street scene was 'totally true'
Jordan Belfort's ex-wife has offered her perspective on the Wolf of Wall Street scenes, which sees Margot Robbie play her. Taking to TikTok, Nadine Macaluso confessed that through her ex-husband's eyes "it's really accurate," but noted that through her own lens, "it wasn't and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was." When asked whether scenes from the film were "really true," she admitted to one scene being "totally true". The 2013 hit film shows Belfort buying his wife a yacht as a wedding gift. Macaluso, who now works as a therapist, said he did not gift her a boat but later purchased one after the pair welcomed their daughter, Chandler. "I did not want to buy the yacht ironically," she told followers. "And he was like 'Nope, I'm buying a yacht and I'm calling it the Nadine'. And I was like 'Okay, here we go'." It was then the real scene took place... "Two months ago," she responded. Another person asked whether she and Belfort had "any type of relationship now" to which she replied: "Yes we do as we share 2 terrific children." In a separate video, she told followers that the famous clip of Robbie in the nursery was completely fabricated. "I am not that sexy, I wish I was," she said. Barbie has secures high Rotten Tomatoes score – and it's not even out yet
Barbie is everywhere. From Barbiecore becoming fashion's latest buzzword to billboards, to food and drink to merch collaborations – and still, the people demand more. Well now, Greta Gerwig's hotly anticipated film has secured a strong Rotten Tomatoes rating, proving it has style and substance. Barbie, set to hit cinemas on 21 July, has received an impressive 89 per cent score on the popular American film and TV review website, with film critics pleasantly surprised by the Warner Bros' production. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "Life in plastic is fantastic indeed: Barbie is a sharp, hilarious and joy-contagious satire of gender roles," Mireia Mullor from Digital Spy wrote, while Andrew Gaudion from THN described the film as "a feminist fairy tale with lots on its mind about the modern world and the gender roles within. That, and it’s also exceptionally silly and funny." Barbie | Main Trailer www.youtube.com Alice Saville from Time Out added: "This is a wonderfully fun watch that somehow manages to simultaneously celebrate and satirise the Barbie brand, its feminism and girliness pairing like gorpcore sandals with a floaty pink skirt." One glowing review from Brian Truitt at USA Today read: "Barbie is really an insightful exploration of humanity, the meaning of life and the cognitive dissonance of a woman living in the patriarchy, all with a really big heart and style to spare." Meanwhile, New York Post critic Johnny Oleksinkski didn't hold back when offering his take, calling the film "exhausting, spastic, self-absorbed and overwrought disappointment." Greta Gerwig's Barbie, featuring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Micheal Cera and Issa Rae, is set to hit cinemas on 21 July. Have your say in our news democracy. Mamma Mia! and The Dark Knight were the original Barbenheimer
Mamma Mia! and The Dark Knight were the original Barbenheimer
The same-day release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has sparked a frenzy on social media in recent weeks. But as cotton candy plastic pop meets death, destroyer of worlds on Friday 21 July, it’s worth pointing out that, incredibly, this has happened before. Fifteen years ago on 18 July 2008, dark versus light had another box office showdown, when Nolan’s The Dark Knight was released on the same day as Abba-inspired musical sensation Mamma Mia! Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Of course, social media was a very different beast back then. We can only dream of what the meme machine would have churned out with Christian Bale’s foreboding Batman and Amanda Seyfreid’s bride-to-be Sophie. Or what about Heath Ledger’s terrifying Joker and Pierce Brosnan’s smooth-as-you-like Sam Carmichael? The Dark Knight won the opening weekend by some distance, bringing in $158.4m in ticket sales compared to $27.7m for Mamma Mia! However, the Abba extravaganza clawed back some ground in the end, earning $611m in total, though still far less than The Dark Knight’s $1bn. Of course, theatre fans will point to the resounding success of Mamma Mia! the musical, which is the second-most successful production of all time with $4bn in total revenue, only lagging behind The Phantom Of The Opera. And beyond the numbers, news outlet Vulture even positioned the event as a good versus evil, light versus dark battle “for the soul of America” ahead of opening weekend. Sounds familiar, right? “It’s tempting to look at this weekend, in fact, as a mandate on how Americans feel about the state and future of our great nation,” the publication wrote at the time. “Is America optimistic? Do we essentially view ourselves as attractive, tan actresses frolicking on the beach to ABBA songs? Or is the soul of America chaotic and violent, like the deranged anti-hero whose electrifying presence animates The Dark Knight?” Twitter users tried to give the 15-year-old film pairing the Barbenheimer treatment. One person wrote: “Just realised the dark knight/mamma mia release day could have been called “Abbatman”. Why wasn’t I on Twitter in 2008?” It’s too early to say which of Barbie or Oppenheimer will come out on top on their opening weekend – though analysts have predicted a win for the former. 21 of the best Barbenheimer memes, reactions and mashups
The internet going crazy for two films about kids’ dolls and weapons of mass destruction couldn’t have been on many people’s bingo cards. But with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer set to come out on the same day, 21 July, you’d be challenged to name a more iconic duo. The hype around the movies could hardly have been more different. Barbie is, well, Barbie; it’s pink, pretty and plastic. Oppenheimer is the atom bomb: fire and brimstone, the destroyer of worlds. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Social media doesn’t see it that way, though. As cinemas gear up to show the movies back-to-back – and film-goers argue over which one to watch first – the meme factory has been working on overdrive. Here are some of the best Twitter has to offer: It recently emerged that the Barbie dream house had mysteriously appeared in Malibu. It comes complete with a pool, huge balconies and that signature pink finish. Oh, and you can stay there on Airbnb soon. Unfortunately, Oppenheimer fans had an idea for how they could counter the excellent work done by Barbie’s marketing team with a slightly more destructive piece of marketing of their own. They wouldn’t... Would they? People are already planning their entire days around the dual event. Are you Oppenheimer first, then Barbie? (Otherwise known as Oppenbarbie.) Or are you doing it the other, incorrect way? Because if you’re seeing Barbie in the morning followed by a chaser of atomic doom in the evening (Barbenheimer, apparently), you’re doing it all wrong, apparently. Which camp (or state) do you fall into? These two iconic houses in Santa Monica almost nail the difference in tone between the two films without even knowing it: Yes, of course, there is merch. And even the stars of the films themselves have joined in the fun: Instagram has even made a trailer. The good news is, whichever you go for – Barbenheimer or Oppenbarbie – there's one thing everyone can agree on... Have your say in our news democracy. Homer Simpson's best meme has been turned into an Adidas trainer
Homer Simpson's best meme has been turned into an Adidas trainer
We all know the GIF where Homer Simpson backs into a bush. Well now, Adidas might have created its best collaboration yet, by combining the famous meme and their classic Stan Smith trainer. The GIF, taken from a 1994 episode of The Simpsons, has been widely used online to express embarrassment in certain situations. "Him coming through the hedges was based on my childhood behaviour of walking through hedges in my neighbourhood. I would pretend that I was dimension-hopping," David Mirkin, who was a showrunner at the time, explained. "You can only do it a few times before you leave a hole, and so I did tens of thousands of dollars of damage to people’s hedges I’m sure." The iconic meme can now be found on the back of the Adidas trainer – and we must admit, they nailed the bush's texture. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The collaboration is already going down a treat on Twitter with one writing: "These are incredible. The texture of the bush definitely going to have to grab a pair of these." "Damn I need those in my life," another added, as a third reiterated: "These are actually brilliant." Meanwhile, one eagle-eyed creative joked: "Man I wish Homer was a lil more into the bush in the right shoe." This isn't the first time one of the show's characters has appeared on an Adidas shoe. In 2022, the Adidas Superstars payed homage to Marge Simpson and her famed blue do. The Adidas Stan Smiths featuring the Homer meme will reportedly be released on August 18, according to Sneaker Leakers. Indy100 reached out to Adidas for comment. Have your say in our news democracy.
