There is a secret tunnel at Glastonbury that runs right through the middle of the festival
Glastonbury is back in full swing, and while the weather wasn't off to a great start as anticipated, lucky festival-goers didn't let it dampen their spirits. The likes of Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey and Lizzo are set to head to the stage during the unmissable weekend. There is one thing, however, that many of the 200,000 revellers may unintentionally miss: A secret underground tunnel. That's right. There is a mysterious tunnel that connects the Greenpeace Field and the Green Futures area that runs below the old railway line through the middle of the site. The tunnel is often decorated with lights, glass and installations. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter That's not all... According to Somerset Live, there's another hidden gem tucked away at Glasto. Above the highest point of the festival area is Strummerville, an area to relax and unwind next to a 24-hour campfire and sofas. The area is often filled with live acoustic performances too. Not to mention, a 'hidden oasis' which is said to double up as a secret nudist area at Glastonbury. Tucked away from the crowds, this area has been a part of the festival for years and features a sauna, massage parlour and a cafe. Described as "a festival within a festival," Lost Horizons offers a "truly unique" experience. "Our Solar Stage offers a range of entertainment throughout the day, with an assortment of musical styles. You could be easing into the morning with acoustic and folk vibes and jump-start your afternoon with some reggae, swing and gypsy jazz," their site reads. "Some of the best musicians on the festival circuit have played often promoting and joining in with the naturist theme." Have your say in our news democracy. Andrew Tate offers to train Elon Musk for 'fight' with Mark Zuckerberg
Andrew Tate offers to train Elon Musk for 'fight' with Mark Zuckerberg
It’s a story no-one could have see coming a week ago, but Andrew Tate has offered to train Elon Musk for his upcoming 'fight' with Mark Zuckerberg. The Meta CEO seems to have confirmed the pair will go head-to-head in a cage match against the Twitter boss. Musk proposed a fight this week and wrote on Twitter that he was “up for a cage match” when responding to speculation that Zuckerberg is going to release his own platform named "Threads", which sounds like a pretty similar concept to Twitter. Froothie founder Mario Nawfal posted about the new platform on Twitter, writing: “META, the same company that copied Snapchat, TikTok, StumbleUpon, Foursquare, BeReal, and Clubhouse, began coding ‘Project 92’ three months after Elon acquired Twitter…Rumors have been circulating about the app’s public name being Threads”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Musk replied: “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment.” He added: “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.” Zuckerberg responded with a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption “send me location”. Now, Tate has involved himself and tweeted offering to train Musk despite recently being charged with rape and human trafficking charges. Tate wrote: “Meta banned me everywhere for telling the truth about vaccines. “But now we can restore honour with a strike at the enemy clans leader. “I will train you @elonmusk. You will not lose.” The indictment against Tate claims that the four defendants formed an organised crime group in 2021 to commit human trafficking in Romania, as well as other countries including the US and the UK. The case names seven alleged victims who claim to have been recruited by the Tate brothers through false promises of love and marriage. Alleged victims were then taken to buildings in Ilfov county in Romania and intimidated and controlled as well as forced to take part in pornography. One defendant is also accused of raping a woman twice in March 2022. Tate has denied the allegations against him since he was arrested in December 2022. Have your say in our news democracy. Woman claims that she sabotaged her parent's condoms and her mum got pregnant
A woman has opened up about a secret she’s been keeping for 25 years after revealing she tampered with her parent’s birth control so she could get a baby sibling. The wild story was revealed in a TikTok by a woman named Keely, whose shocking admission has since gone viral with almost 7 million views. In the video, Keely admitted to poking holes in her parent’s condoms after finding them on their nightstand. Text overlaying the clip revealed it was sister Sam’s birthday and Keely thought it time she knew she was “sort of responsible for your existence”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Keely explained: “When I was a little girl, me and my best friend were in my mum and dad’s bedroom. And I don’t know how she knew, [but] there were some shiny packets on the nightstand. “And she said what they were and told me what they were used for. And then there was a needle laying beside the packet. Me and my friend poked lots of holes in the packets. “Then, six months later, my mum told me she was pregnant and I was so happy, but years later my mum still says, ‘I don’t know how she happened. We were so careful.’" @mama__kee @Sam Myrick I’m sort of responsible for your existence. #sister #fyp #sorrynotsorry In the comments section, other TikTokers were left stunned by her revelation, with many saying they would never be brave enough to share that information. “The way I would have taken that to the grave,” one TikToker commented. Another wrote: “So your sister should thank you for her life. Literally.” Someone else said: “The way I’d wait for the perfect age and time to present this information to my family…. Bravo.” It was also suggested: “I hope you hold this over Sam’s head every time you need a favour.” Have your say in our news democracy. TikToker sparks outrage for telling people to 'get rid of their fat friends'
A TikTok user has caused a stir online for urging followers to ditch their "fat friends" if they want to be skinny. In a recent clip circulating across the platform, Karmalita speaks about the "law of proximity," a belief that falls under social psychology in which you become who you're surrounded by. The TikToker went on to tell viewers to get rid of their "ugly friends" if they want to be pretty. "You shouldn't be friends with people based on their levels of attractiveness," she said, adding that it's more about "relatability". Karmalita continued: "How the hell are you going to relate to the girl that's crying in the corner complaining about her looks when you're sitting here looking like a snack?" Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter @karmalitafox Law of proximity, surround yourself with people you want to be like so their influence can rub off on you #prettyprivilege She then shifted her attention to more problematic takes, in what some have likened to "Andrew Tate-core", telling people: "If you start hanging out with your fat friends too much, all of a sudden it’s gonna be normalized to get Taco Bell at 2 a.m. in the morning." Thousands of fellow TikTokers flocked to the clip, with one writing: "Hang out with friends who genuinely care about you, make you feel good, ppl who help u grow, make you laugh, friends who don’t judge." Another added: "Just be friends with people with good vibes that help you grow mentally. Appearance is temporary, but true love and friendship last forever." Meanwhile, a third hit back: "I'd like to hope friendships go a lot deeper than looks. we relate on life, career etc however there's truth to this in that you become who you're with." Blind man kicked out of gym 'for staring at a woman'
A 21-year-old has recalled the mortifying time he was kicked out of a gym for "creepily" staring at a woman – despite being blind. Toby Addison, a psychology and counselling student who frequently posts on his TikTok @blindtobes, appeared on the 'Happy Hour Podcast' earlier this month. He explained the incident in which he was working out "minding his own business," when he heard a woman say: "Oh, do you like the view?" "Obviously I don’t really know where I’m looking a lot of the time," Toby shared on the podcast episode. "I was just staring right ahead and unfortunately there was a woman doing some exercises." Toby said he initially didn't know she was speaking to him as he "wasn't doing anything wrong." However, the woman reiterated: "'Why do you keep staring at me? Stop, don’t be so creepy.'" He told her he was blind, but she "wasn't having any of it." She allegedly went on to tell Toby to "'shut up'" before having the gym manager remove him from the facility. Man appears to find forgotten shopping mall after descending huge secret staircase
A man found what appeared to be an abandoned shopping mall after descending a secret, hidden staircase. The eerie footage of the discovery was shared by the TikTok account @just.backrooms1 and has been viewed almost 12 million times in just a few days. At the start of the 3-and-a-half-minute clip, a person could be seen filming what appeared to be a small hole in the ground that looked as though it had been previously covered in concrete. As they placed the camera inside the hole, it revealed a long concrete staircase lined with lights that were still operating. The person filming said: “What I find really weird is that all the lights are on, so that tells me that there’s still something active here.” They proceeded to descend the long staircase and, at the bottom, found themselves faced with a single wooden door. Netflix users can create their own ‘Joan is Awful’ poster, but there’s a catch
Black Mirror season six has become even more immersive with the opportunity to make your own ‘Joan is Awful’ inspired poster, but fans noticed another aspect of the website that’s even more like the hit episode. Black Mirror premiered its sixth season with five new episodes, the first titled ‘Joan is Awful’ starring Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek. The episode follows Joan (Murphy) who turns on her TV to find ‘Streamberry’ (a parody of Netflix) has made a show about her life called Joan is Awful with Salma Hayek portraying Joan and showing the events that happened in Joan’s life that day. After losing her fiancé and job, in an attempt to stop Streamberry from using her likeness and her life for a show, Joan tries to sue Streamberry. That is until her lawyer points out that she had technically consented for Streamberry to portray her likeness and her life in the terms and conditions she had agreed to when signing up for the platform. Joan discovers that the show is produced using CGI and that Salma Hayek simply signed off on having her likeness digitally reproduced by Streamberry. Yesterday, the official Black Mirror Twitter account, along with official Netflix accounts (who temporarily changed their name to ‘Steamberry’) posted a link to a website named “You Are Awful” with the caption: “Sign up for Streamberry today!” When clicking on the link it takes you to a page similar to that of Netflix asking you to upload a photo of yourself “to set up your sweet new Streamberry profile!” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter It then asks you to enter your first name along with a photo of yourself. In order to continue the process, you must consent for Netflix to use the image in its marketing campaign as well as read and agree to the terms of service and privacy statement. Many shared on Twitter their recreation of the original ‘Joan is Awful’ poster, with their own names and faces, but some fans were more hesitant to check the terms of service after watching the episode. One fan decided to read the terms of service, learning from Joan’s mistake in the show, and saw that there was a clause titled “Name and Likeness” where users agreed to “grant the Netflix entity that provides you with this Experience, its affiliates and respective successors and assigns and anyone authorised by any of them (collectively, “Netflix”), the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive right to record, depict, and/or portray you.” It also states that users give Netflix the right to “record, depict, and/or prorate you and use, your actual or simulated likeness, name, photograph, voice, actions, etc.” So maybe don’t be surprised if you see your name and face on Netflix in the future. Man writes wife brutal performance review on how to improve herself
Man writes wife brutal performance review on how to improve herself
A man has caused a stir online after admitting to writing his wife a performance review on areas she could improve on. In the popular Reddit forum 'AITA (Am I the a**hole)', users are on standby with brutally honest opinions as to whether someone has acted inappropriately. In this instance, the anonymous man (let's call him Joe for ease) started by explaining that he and his wife share a six-year-old child together. The pair also take care of his wife's 13-year-old daughter and their 15-year-old niece, who they have custody over. Joe believes that his wife is constantly siding with their youngest child, while harshly disciplining the elder two. He went on to accuse his wife of teaching their toddler to "blame others for her actions to avoid consequences," with further claims of favouritism which causes the teens to "act out." "She just says the word, one of the teens will get punished without question," he wrote. "There’s no doubt, she is my wife’s favourite. I love her, but she’s becoming nothing more than an entitled brat." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter As a result, Joe thought it would be a great idea to write his wife a parenting performance review, outlining her "areas in need of improvement." "I touched on how she needs to listen better, stop being biased," he wrote. "Be fair in all her decisions, stop making rash decisions without taking all three kids into consideration. "I recommended her to give each child the same amount of one-on-one alone time to speak, or just be with one another. "So it wouldn’t be an entirely slap to her face, I gave her accolades on her strong points for other areas aside from parenting. "I guess I felt this would work best because I could organize my thoughts on paper without her interjecting." Unsurprisingly, his idea went down like a lead balloon and "quickly backfired" with his wife describing it as a "manipulative sexist move." Redditors weren't far behind, either... "The parenting of your children is not a project. You are not her boss, you are her husband and the father of her kid," one wrote. "Giving her a performance review comes across as really condescending and as she said, manipulative." Meanwhile, another called it "kind of messed up." Have your say in our news democracy. 'Vile' Titanic submarine memes show social media at its worst
'Vile' Titanic submarine memes show social media at its worst
Every now and then, there’s an element of online discourse that reminds you how much of a cesspit social media is. The search for the OceanGate Expeditions submarine is one of them. Ever since a craft containing five people went missing on a journey to observe the wreckage of the Titanic on Sunday, our timelines have been full of people making light of the situation - they must be seeing a very different news story to the one we're seeing. The Titan submersible is equipped with a four-day emergency oxygen supply. It is estimated that the five missing passengers have just 24 hours of oxygen supply left inside the vessel. A Canadian aircraft searching for the missing Titan submarine detected intermittent “banging” noises from the vicinity of the last known location of the divers, and the search continues. It’s the deepest undersea rescue operation in history covering some 10,000 square miles of ocean and the sheer scale of the operation is hard to grasp. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter As families wait anxiously to hear details of the rescue mission, social media users across the world have been joking about the situation; sharing memes about which nostalgic games controller they’d choose to steer the craft, and showing contempt for the gravest of situations. The people trapped in the 6.5 metre sub somewhere in the mid-Atlantic ocean were revealed to include British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and OceanGate founder Stockton Rush, along with Surrey-based businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman Dawood. Friends of the people trapped on board have also speculated that those on the vessel could currently be dealing with hypothermia if the vessel has lost power. Many have been highlighting the material wealth of those on board on social media, as if somehow the fact that there are billionaires on board who spent £250,000 to head on the expedition in the first place justifies the ridicule and indifference to human life. It’s social media at its grimmest, and if Elon Musk’s deranged tinkering hadn’t already, seeing the lack of empathy for an unimaginably terrifying situation play out on Twitter, with so many gleefully giggling away at the horror of it all, I’m starting to think I wouldn’t mind seeing the back of the whole wretched platform forever. There are plenty of people on Twitter who have recognised such, and voiced their anger at the ghoulish reactions they’ve been seeing online. One wrote: “The tweets joking about the missing #OceanGate sub make me physically ill. These are real people you are mocking. Their wealth is immaterial. Have some effing compassion.” “idk man i know we hate rich people but i think if you’re laughing at the idea of any non-evil person dying perhaps the most nightmarish death imaginable, it may be time to log off for a little,” a Twitter user said. Another said: “Two of the people on the Titanic submarine are a father and his teenage son. His wife and daughter are back home absolutely terrified. Sorry to be a buzzkill guys but maybe we shouldn’t joke about it or make fun of these people for how they spent their money, they are real humans.” A user commented: “The entire online discussion surrounding the OceanGate submarine is an indictment on the vile nature of social media. “Five people are either dead or starving of oxygen (imagine the terror) and Twitter is awash with jokes/hot takes about them. “Gross.” Have your say in our news democracy. Fishermen capture eerie 'alien mermaid' footage in Puerto Rico
Fishermen capture eerie 'alien mermaid' footage in Puerto Rico
Alien fanatics are currently enjoying a prolonged field day, with a whole host of conspiracy theories and sightings to get their teeth into. From whistleblower “revelations” about hushed-up spacecraft, to an E.T. drop-in at a Las Vegas home, there seems no end to the reports on visitors from outer space. The latest of these offers an interesting twist on the usual flying saucer story, because this one is all about a USO. To the uninitiated, USO stands for “unidentified submerged object” or “unidentified submarine object”. In other words, something eerie lurking under the water. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter This particular USO was spotted off the coast of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, last weekend, allegedly by a group of fishermen. The men began filming the ocean around them after they were greeted by an ethereal blue light beaming from beneath the waves. Footage of their close encounter has been widely shared on TikTok, where viewers have been urged to “watch until the end” of the three-minute clip. Those who have the time and inclination to do so will hear the fisherman’s increasingly excited voices cry: “Look! Look! There’s something there!” And, indeed, if you look closely you can make out a figure bobbing up and down in the azure patch of sea. @beyond.our.planet USO caught in Puerto Rico! What do you think? #USO #ufo #ufocommunity #aliensighting #ufosighting #whatsreallygoingon #conspiracy #lasvegasaliensighting #uap #aliens #paranormal #unexplained Naturally, the clip has been seized upon by commentators on both sides of the “aliens are among us” coin, with a third group offering an alternative supernatural explanation. “Forget the light THERE’S DEFINITELY A BEING RIGHT THERE,” wrote one stunned viewer. Meanwhile, one alien hunter insisted that the “creature” at the end of the video looked “exactly the same as [the one] in Las Vegas”. Others were adamant that the strange figure was not an alien but another mythical being. “Seems like a mermaid/siren,” offered one such theorist, adding: “They make that blue circle light under water.” (We appreciate how they’ve stated that as fact.) Others, with their feet planted firmly on solid ground, offered less romantic hypotheses. “What you are witnessing is called bioluminescence. It’s not groundbreaking but it’s pretty cool.” Bioluminescence is light produced by a chemical reaction within a living organism – for example, a fish, jelly or bacteria – which commonly takes the form of a jaw-dropping blueish-green glow. And sure, it may not be as interesting as a mermaid, alien, or “mermaid alien” but we agree, it is still pretty cool to behold. Have your say in our news democracy. Was TikToker Blake Rosier really the only passenger on a cruise ship?
Was TikToker Blake Rosier really the only passenger on a cruise ship?
A TikToker has been celebrated for “living an introvert's dream” after he boasted about being the only passenger on a cruise ship. Major liners can hold between 2,000 and 4,000 guests, and yet Blake Rosier claimed that he’d managed to find himself totally alone on one – apart from a whole army of staff. In a video posted on Tuesday, Blake can be seen standing in a pool and showing off the empty deck around him. Addressing his audience, he announces: “As some of you know, I'm on this cruise ship completely alone. I am the only guest on this ship besides the crew, of course, that's been tending to me hand and foot, literally. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “This cruise has been insane,” he continues. “I don't know how this happened exactly. They even have a movie playing for just me. “All the shows are still going, the pools are open. Literally just me here – it’s truly insane and it's been amazing. “I just had dinner in a huge dining hall with no one else. I'll keep you guys updated.” @blakerosier24620 I was the only guest on a cruise ship He has failed to post any updates since that original post, nor has he provided any information on which operator he’s supposedly travelling with. Still, that hasn’t dampened people’s enthusiasm for his outlandish claims, with the clip racking up more than 490,500 views and 31,000 likes in a day, as commentators shared their takes on the unusual scenario. “That’s the only appealing cruise I’ve ever seen,” one joked. “Not sure if that’s a dream or nightmare,” added another. Indeed, whilst one fellow TikToker described it as an “introvert’s dream” another argued: “This is my introvert’s nightmare – the entire crew tending to you JUST YOU???” Others poured cold water on Blake’s brag, with a number suggesting he had just filmed the video late at night when everyone else was asleep. Others suggested he was a member of staff himself, and that he’d recorded himself once the journey was over and everyone else had gone home. In fact, it’s not the first time the content creator has claimed to be alone on a ship. Last year, he uploaded a video titled ‘Only guest on a cruise ship in the dining hall’. He began the 26-second clip, by saying happily to the camera: “Look at all these people that know me,” before filming staff greeting him as he strolled around the food area. Only guest on a cruise ship in the dining hall www.youtube.com There are a few other clues that Blake’s solo trip claims are all just a big joke. The YouTuber is known for his comic, spoof videos and not for being the kind of travel influencer who might be able to bag himself an exclusive spot on a cruise. Also, whilst he doesn’t divulge any info about his journey in the most recent cruise clip, his video location is tagged as "New York". Still, we all enjoyed the ride while it lasted.
