Fast-fashion brand Shein has been accused of spreading "propaganda" after influencers were sent to China to walk around the company's factory to see how their clothes are manufactured. Shein invited influencers and Shein "ambassadors" to their "innovation" factory and warehouse – and many are criticising the influencers' posts about their trip. Many received backlash from viewers who say they were promoting propaganda about Shein's practices. One influencer known as Dani DMC said in an Instagram reel about the trip: "I was really impressed to see the working conditions [...] Shein is such a developed and complex company." Dani also claimed to have spoken to a worker who was "very surprised about all the rumours that had been spread in the US." Dani herself also said that the trip taught her to "think for herself" because "there's a narrative fed to us in the US." Another influencer AuJené, @itsjustajlove on Instagram, who was also invited on the trip, shared similar sentiments to Dani. In a reel that discussed her fourth day on the trip, she told viewers she had asked questions about child labour and said: "I found out there is an independent third party contractor that audits all of Shein's manufacturers they conduct over 2500 audits annually to make sure that they align with international laws when it comes to child labour and wages." "They work normal shift hours and are able to quit when they feel like it just like any other job," she added. "Seeing their authenticity even when the cameras were off was endearing to me and very important." The company has previously been criticised for its unsustainable practices and mass production of items. Synthetics Anonymous 2.0, a report published on fashion sustainability, claimed that the manufacturers' use of virgin pouter and large consumption of oil produces the same amount of CO2 as roughly 180 coal-fired power plants. A documentary from Channel 4 titled, Inside the Shein Machine, found that Shein employees were often working 75-hour shifts with little time off. The documentary had undercover cameras that filmed workers making hundreds of garments a day. In one factory, workers made a daily base salary of $20, if any garments had mistakes their pay was cut to $14. In response to the documentary the fast-fashion giant admitted to the safety breaches in a statement: "We know we have a responsibility to safeguard the welfare of workers in our supply chain. In light of the recent report in the news, we launched an investigation into the claim that 2 of our suppliers has unacceptable working conditions at their facilities." A subreddit has gained attention on social media after one of the moderators 'warned' a commenter for "overrating" a woman's looks. The subreddit called "True Rate Me" uses a strict numerical system to rate the physical appearance of users who upload selfies onto the website. The subreddit contains a guide for rating women and men at the top of its page and is strict when it comes to enforcing correct ratings. A tweet, originally posted by the account @kirbylarp, contained a screenshot from the subreddit showing a user receiving a "warning" for "overrating" a woman who uploaded her photo to the subreddit. The tweet has since been deleted at the request of the woman in the photo. After the subreddit went viral, users wanted to gain a better insight into how it operates, with many shocked and even "disgusted", whilst some tried to defend the page. Her post had 1.8k comments, and it seemed that any user who rated her seven or above was smacked with a "warning" for giving her too high a rating. One person rated her a seven. "I'd consider going higher, too, if it weren't for mods giving people warnings for anything above 7. According to this sub’s guide, I think you’re prettier than most of the 7’s there, and reading through comments, it doesn’t look like I’m the only one who believes that. I think it’s the mods being subjective with this one…" Another rated her a 6.2. "If you're really only 21, you need to start using sunscreen and daily moisturiser now," one brutal comment read. "Drink lots of water and stop smoking if you do. You're getting away with it, but in a few years, your skin is going to look so wrinkled/old." "5.8 attractive and above average," a third added. According to the guide attached to the subreddit, a seven is in the top 2.5%. Actresses Tara Shahidi, Shay Mitchell, and Elizabeth Lail are all considered 7s. Model Emily Ratajkowski is considered a 7.5. "Somewhat uncommon and the most attractive women seen on a day-to-day basis," states the guide. "These women stand out from the crowd and may be able to model or be successful as an 'Instagram model' or influencer." It goes on to describe 7's as having "feminine and attractive" facial features but may possess flaws such as "bulbous nasal tip, slight asymmetry, long mid-face." Men also post photos of themselves for ratings, with a "male 7" being similar to that of a "female 7", but their flaws are considered to be "crooked nose, slight asymmetry, long mid-face, Negative Canthal tilt." Penn Badgley, Tony Chung, and Keith Powers were among those rated a seven. When those outside the subreddit discovered True Rate Me, many took to Twitter to express their shock at some of the comments posted: One user tried to explain that people on the subreddit aren't giving their personal opinions (or at least aren't supposed to) and that all users have to follow the guide. Others lauded those who upload their photos as "brave" people, whilst another user joked they were going to give all women a rating of 10: The subreddit states that it "aims to provide accurate and objective ratings, by implementing standards that give raters a common ground." They also disagrees with the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", they argue "beauty is more objective than subjective. Fans of US TV show Jeopardy! have been sharing messages online after it was revealed that fan favourite Sam Buttrey narrowly missed a tour of the Titanic wreck site. College professor Buttrey has been a regular guest on the show and became the 2021 Professors Tournament Champion. Clips have been circulating from a recent episode of the programme which see Buttrey reveal he missed the opportunity to visit the site in a submersible craft. It comes as five men on board the Titan submersible were declared dead on Thursday after authorities announced that the craft imploded near the site of the Titanic shipwreck. Speaking to host Ken Jennings on the Jeopardy! Masters Tournament last month, he revealed that he wasn’t able to go on a similar tour due to his son’s wedding taking place. It is not clear whether the trip would have been with the same company, OceanGate, that operated the Titan craft. Those who believe in this conspiracy think it was the Titanic's sister the ship the Olympic that actually sank. One TikTok account called @official_spooks, that has over 2.2 million likes and posts a range of conspiracy theories, said that the owners of the two ships swapped out the Titanic for the Olympic, which was heavily damaged and not very profitable, at the last minute to recoup some of the insurance money to cover the Olympic. Conspiracy theorists also cite figures such as J.P Morgan pulling out of the trip beforehand as confirmation that something was amiss. With some even going as far to say the J.P. No, this isn’t a video of Sam Smith stage diving. A viral clip has been doing the rounds recently showing a figure in a green jumpsuit leaping with their arms aloft into a crowd at a music concert. Millions have seen the clip, which claims that it’s Smith diving off the stage at their show in Seattle recently. "Sam Smith doing a stage dive at [their] Seattle show,” the caption reads. Instead, the clip shows a fan diving into the crowd – and things don’t quite go to plan and people struggle to catch them. The caption on that clip says: “He was having a really good time until…” The first clip has been seen by millions of people on social media and Smith fans have been trying to clear up the mistaken identity over recent days. A street artist who goes by the name "Plastic Jesus" has taken credit for mocking former President Donald Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The L.A. based artist took to Twitter to share a photo of passersby taking photos of his work. The artist had added a toilet and bathtub filled with 'top secret' boxes near the star, which was squared off with 'crime scene do not cross' tape. A recreation of the scene found at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence led to the former president being indicted earlier this month. The artist wrote on Twitter: "'Top Secret' Street Artist 'Plastic Jesus' hits out at Trump's document scandal."
