Bride shocked as friend demands her dog be invited to wedding as he’s ‘part of the family’
Bride shocked as friend demands her dog be invited to wedding as he’s ‘part of the family’
A bride has shared her bizarre experience in the run up to the wedding, where a friend of hers insisted that she brought her dog to the ceremony. A woman voiced her frustration in a viral Reddit thread, explaining that her friend demanded an invite for her canine companion as it was “part of the family”. The unnamed 28-year-old wrote: "My friend, Lisa, has a dog named Max that she adores. Max is a lovable but highly energetic German Shepherd." She added: "Recently, Lisa asked me if she could bring Max to my wedding. She argued that he's part of her family, and she can't imagine leaving him alone for the whole day. She wants him to be a part of our special day." The bride went on to say that she told Lisa the venue would now allow the dog to attend the ceremony, and that the decision was out of her hands. "I love Max and understand her attachment, but I was hesitant,” she wrote. “I explained that our venue doesn't allow pets, and it's a formal event. We have a lot of guests who might not be comfortable around dogs, and I don't want any potential disruptions during the ceremony or reception." The woman added: "Lisa got upset and accused me of being inconsiderate. She said she'd keep Max on a leash and make sure he doesn't bother anyone. I insisted that we have to follow the venue's rules, but Lisa won't drop it. Now she's threatening not to come to the wedding at all because Max can't be there." Eventually the pair worked out a compromise, with the bride hosting a smaller event ahead of the wedding day which meant she was able to invite Lisa. "After our initial argument, Lisa and I had a heart-to-heart conversation,” the bride wrote. “She apologized for pressuring me and said she understood my concerns about the venue's rules. We agreed that Max won't be attending the formal ceremony and reception. We found a compromise by having a small, informal gathering the day before the wedding, where Max can join us. It'll be a fun and relaxed pre-wedding get-together for close friends and family to meet Max without any disruptions to the wedding itself." The comments section was full of people criticising Lisa’s actions, with one writing: "That is a completely unreasonable request. I have never heard of a guest bringing a dog to a wedding, especially a formal indoor ceremony." Another said: "This is a completely inappropriate request. Max is a pet, not a service animal. She needs to make arrangements for him by leaving him with a friend, family member, or boarding facility. If she is incapable of being away from him for a day she needs to get mental health help." It comes after a bridge sparked controversy after charging guests £2,000 to attend her wedding. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. What happened between SSSniperWolf and JacksFilms? Biggest feud on YouTube explained
What happened between SSSniperWolf and JacksFilms? Biggest feud on YouTube explained
YouTuber SSSniperWolf has come in for widespread criticism after doxxing fellow YouTuber JacksFilms after months of back-and-forth between the two. JacksFilms, whose real name is John Douglass, has long been a critic of SSSniperWolf, real name Alia Shelesh, taking issue with her content style and accusing her of stealing work from other creators. In 2022, Douglass created a second channel, "JJJacksfilms", where he uploaded videos poking fun at SSSniperWold. In the last two months alone, he has posted 40 videos reacting and commenting on SSSniperWolf's videos. In a series of heated tweets, Shelesh accused Douglass of not being able to "stand that a female YouTuber is getting more views" than him. However, things escalated dramatically when Shelesh turned up to Douglass' house and doxxed him on her Instagram story. On October 14, Shelesh posted a poll to her Instagram story asking fans whether she should go to Douglass' house because she was only "five mins away" from where she was filming. She then posted a photo outside of his house accompanied with "Let's talk like adults". After a wave of backlash, Shelesh deleted the post. Then going on to say "accusing me of doxxing is defamation" and that "this creep has been harassing me for months then plays victim saying I threatened him when I just wanted to talk to him". Douglass then tweeted: "You posted a video tonight of you outside our home for your 5M+ followers to see. While my wife and I were inside. "If that's not doxxing, why did you delete it?" Douglass and many others then called on YouTube to take action against Shelesh in a video titled "SSSniperwold came to our home last night. It's time for YouTube to step in". YouTuber Philip DeFranco called Shelesh's behaviour "insane and reckless" as well as criticising YouTube's response that seemed to disprove of both SSSniperwolf and JacksFilms behaviour. YouTube finally responded to the situation after facing backlash for remaining silent, sating they had "temporarily" demonetised SSSniperWolf due to her actions. But many thought it didn't go far enough and believed that Shelesh should be removed from the platform entirely, accusing the platform of showing favouritism towards Shelesh. On October 20, Shelesh issued an apology on Twitter/X, calling her actions "inexcusable". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Tube driver leads ‘Free Palestine’ chant ahead of London march
Tube driver leads ‘Free Palestine’ chant ahead of London march
A driver on the London Underground has been filmed leading a “free Palestine” chant ahead of pro-Palestine protests in the capital. Footage, shared by social media user Ruby Lott-Lavigna, sees the driver over the speaker saying “free free” before the people on the carriage shout “Palestine”. The driver can also be heard saying: “Hope you all have a blessed day today, and look after yourselves. “His well-wishes are greeted with whoops and cheers from the crowd who listen on as he concludes by saying "and keep those people in your prayers.” Lott-Lavigna posted the video and wrote: “Central line tube driver carrying hundreds of people to the free palestine march in london leads the tube in a chant. “Says he wanted to be there but couldn’t get the day off.” Crowds converged on Downing Street on Saturday 21 October as diplomatic efforts intensified to allow access for humanitarian aid to Gaza and secure the release of hostages. Ahead of the protest, James Cleverly, the foreign secretary, reiterated the UK’s support of Israel’s right to defend itself. He also called on Israel to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Palestinians in Gaza and urged the country’s defence forces to act with “discipline” in its response to the Hamas attack. He warned that failure to show restraint could spark wider instability in the Middle East at a time of heightened political tensions around the globe. “The UK is clear and has been consistently clear that Israel has the right to self-defence and the right to secure the release of those who are kidnapped on 7 October,” he told an international peace summit in Cairo, Egypt. “And we are also clear that we must work, and they must work, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and that their actions are in accordance with international law.” indy100 has reached out to TFL for comment. Map of UK as US states sparks intense online debate
Map of UK as US states sparks intense online debate
A map of the United Kingdom as US states has sparked debate about how British regions and counties compare to their American counterparts. For reasons unknown, the Twitter account “Milkman Memes For Lib Dem Teens” decided to attempt the wildly-controversial task of assigning states to the UK over the weekend, with the results sparking a mixture of debate and outrage online. Some of the decisions are pretty obvious: for example, London is clearly New York – a culturally rich and terrifying expensive major world city. However, others are less clear – especially as the explanations offered by Milkman Memes range from vague social commentary to geographical similarities. You can find the full map below: As ever with these things, whether any of these decisions make sense is a matter of gut instinct but here are some that fit quite well: And here are some that are more questionable… Anyone claiming that Preston is the “British Las Vegas” has surely not spent much time in either of those cities – especially when the UK’s Las Vegas is clearly Blackpool... Thankfully, some other users have come up with alternative suggestions for the different parts of the country, with some pretty detailed thinking behind them: Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. 7 things to never do on a plane according to a flight attendant
7 things to never do on a plane according to a flight attendant
There are certain unwritten rules when it comes to travelling. Be polite, don’t invade anyone’s space, and keep your shoes on. Amid a global pandemic, perhaps we should add wearing a mask to that list, too. But there are other things you probably should - and shouldn't - do if you’re travelling on a plane, as one former flight attendant revealed. The former flight attendant took to Reddit and answered some of the most important questions about flying. Reddit user adrianne456, whose credentials have been verified by Reddit, wrote: “I've been a flight attendant for a little under two years for a regional airline that serves three of the US' major airlines. “I worked on 80 seater aircrafts with one other flight attendant and two pilots. It's been a great experience, but today - I quit.” indy100 compiled a list of things not to do on a plane based on what adrianne456 revealed… Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter 1. Do not take a seat in first class (unless you have a ticket) "You will get embarrassed." 2. Don’t drink the tea or coffee "I personally would not drink the potable water from the aircraft. So the tea, coffee...I would avoid. The water isn’t so bad but how often do you really think those tanks are cleaned?" 3. Don’t try to join the Mile High Club, they know what you’re trying to do no matter how subtle you think you are "We can pretty much see what everyone is doing on the plane for the most part. I would see two people going in the bathroom easily." 4. Don’t do a poo "Don't take a s*** on the plane. PLEASE. Sometimes I get it, you just have to go but damn, close the door behind you…" 5. In fact, don’t use the bathroom while boarding either You are really getting in the flight attendant's way. 6. Don’t eat directly off the table trays "The overnight crew cleans the aircraft. But I would say [they clean it], very rarely." 7. Don't sit in the back if you're scared of turbulence "Try to get a seat assignment near the front of the aircraft. Turbulence is always going to be worst in the back of the aircraft." Have your say in our news democracy. There are four letters you never want to see on your boarding pass
There are four letters you never want to see on your boarding pass
There's one stamp you never want to get on your boarding pass - SSSS. If you have ever been pulled to one side at the airport, it may be because you have the letters SSSS scrawled in marker pen over your boarding pass. The letters, used by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) stand for 'Secondary Security Screening Selection' or else 'Secondary Security Screening Selectee'. The code came to light in 2009 when the TSA handbook was accidentally leaked online by the government, without being redacted or edited in the usual way. Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter Passengers who are selectees are prohibited from printing their boarding pass at home or using a machine to check-in. They will need to check-in at the desk, where they will be asked more thorough questions than other passengers, and undergo less cursory perfunctory identity checks. The boarding pass issued to the passenger will have the letters 'SSSS' written on it, and this means airport staff will be scrutinising the passenger at every checkpoint. TSA agents will also conduct full-body scans, a pat-down, and go through the passenger's luggage, asking them to turn on all electronic devices. The process can take over 30 minutes, so passengers who find they are unable to print their boarding pass at home, should factor in the extra half-hour in their journey to the gate, just in case they undergo secondary screening. Criteria for being selected for secondary security screening can include: Paying for your ticket in cash. Flying to a 'high risk' destination. The random selection also takes place, but some passengers will be selected repeatedly. In April 2010, the New York Times found several children who were repeatedly selected for secondary screening, possibly because their names were similar to persons on the 'No Fly' list. Passengers who feel they are regularly and unfairly targeted can apply to the Department of Homeland Security to find out if they have incorrectly been put on a watch list. Embarrassing truth comes out after TikToker boasts about throwing drink in man's face
Embarrassing truth comes out after TikToker boasts about throwing drink in man's face
A woman who went to TikTok bragging about throwing a drink in a guy’s face has been left embarrassed after the truth about what actually happened was revealed when the guy saw the clip. While TikTok can be a great place for sharing experiences, like when one woman recorded herself being bothered by men, it can also be a place for clout-chasing and misrepresenting the truth. One woman found that out recently when she posted a since-deleted clip, in which she claimed she had thrown her drink over a guy in a bar because he spilled his drink on her three times. But, while she may have thought the video was great content, the guy who she threw the drink over found the video and has since gone viral with his version of events that doesn’t exactly paint her in the best light. TikToker @tanmaybedi_, who goes by the name Tanmay, shared the video on his account, explaining that he was the guy who got the drink thrown at him. He captioned the video, “Not okay to throw a drink at someone and not take accountability for your actions.” @tanmaybedi_ Not okay to throw a drink at someone and not take accountability for your actions @Bink🦋 #fyp #trending In the clip, he explained that he and his friends were relaxing at a bar when the woman and her friends came in and stood right next to them, despite the bar not being overly packed. Tanmay claimed the woman almost immediately turned around and accused the group of spilling a drink over her three times, despite her having just arrived at the venue. He continued: “My friend 'F' explains to the girl that his back was turned towards the girl, and my friend 'E' was totally on the other side, so without spilling on someone else, it would have been impossible to spill on this girl.” Next, he said his friend jokingly told the girl it was Tanmay, despite him having no drink in his hand. Tanmay explained: “Now, she does not think twice and grabs my friend’s drink, snatches it, takes the cup, empties the cup in my face and takes the cup and throws it on my face.” According the Tanmay, the girl also approached the bouncer, who appeared to be a friend of hers, who told the group of friends to leave the girl alone, despite them not having done anything. The clip has been viewed more than 4.4 million times, with people in the comments suggesting that Tanmay press charges for assault and expressing sympathy for what he went through. One TikToker wrote: “This guy seems like he would be the nicest guy at the bar.” “Isn't this technically assault?” asked someone else. Another person wrote: “Ask the bar for a videotape of the incident to press charges. There should be cameras in there.” Someone else argued: “Some people really think they can get away with anything because of attractiveness.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Man hires a naked cleaner as a 'treat' – but it all goes pearshaped
Man hires a naked cleaner as a 'treat' – but it all goes pearshaped
We all have our own coping mechanisms when it comes to heartbreak – whether that be sobbing into a friend’s shoulder, drowning our sorrows at the pub, or consuming ungodly amounts of chocolate. But one man sought a very different form of solace when his marriage ended and, let’s just say, it all went a bit t*ts up. The man opened up about his misguided attempt to console himself in a post shared to the popular ‘Fesshole’ X/Twitter account, where people share their most personal – and mortifying – secrets. In the anonymous confession, he explained that he’d hired a unique form of stripper to keep him entertained at home but, in the end, it wasn’t the “treat” he’d imagined it would be. He wrote: “Having split from my wife I hired a naked cleaner as a treat to myself. “But I find it so awkward sitting in my house, while a young naked woman dusts that I've started going out when I know she's coming. “So I'm parked up somewhere hiding while a naked woman cleans my empty house.” The admission racked up more than 980,000 views and 7,900 likes in just three days as streams of commentators offered less-than-complimentary assessments of the situation. “Every sentence was exponentially more pathetic than the one before, well done, quite an achievement,” wrote one critic. “If watching someone clean in the nude is your idea of a treat, I can see why your wife dropped you,” added another. "Perhaps if you had a little more respect for women you'd still have a wife,” suggested a third. “You seem to be handling your divorce great, mate,” jibed a fourth. “Bro just get a regular cleaner or tell her to start wearing clothes. It would probably be a highlight in her day considering only creepy men hire her,” said a fifth. Meanwhile, others wanted to know how he’d found his… unique cleaning service. “Wondered if this was an actual thing. Since I'm WFH on my own laptop today, just had a quick Google,” one admitted. “There's a company that does this.” Then, throwing some conspiracy theory into the mix, they suggested that the anonymous confessor didn’t hire a naked cleaner but owns the naked cleaning company, and “want[ed] the free advertising.” All we can say is, we’ll stick to hoovering our own carpets, fully clothed, thanks. Fed up of dating apps? Try working for this Senator
One US Senator has gone viral for seemingly offering a better alternative to dating apps: working for him. Republican Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley shared that he had attended the wedding of his Chief of Staff, Jennifer Heins, over the weekend which also happened to be the 20th marriage to occur from people meeting in his office. After sharing pictures of himself with the happy couple on their wedding day, many joked that they were going to delete dating apps and instead go to work for Grassley. "Who needs hinge when you've got the office of u.s. senator chuck grassley", joked one user: However some said that the shocking number perhaps meant that Grassley, 90, should resign. One user exaggerated that he had been in office "for 156 years", whilst another went for a slightly lower number of "137": Others said it was evidence that he had spent too long in office. Grassley was first elected in 1980. Another said it was evidence for the need of "term limits": Grassley isn't the only Senator to possess matchmaking abilities. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer is also known for producing couples from his office, with 11 marriages between his staffers occurring during his time in office. Woman starts debate after charging friends for home cooked dinner
Woman starts debate after charging friends for home cooked dinner
A woman has turned to the internet for advice after being asked to pay to attend her friend's dinner party. Generally, when dinner parties come around, the main focus is the food, drinks and company. Not for one group of pals, though, who were hit with an invoice. Taking to Mumsnet to vent, the woman explained how "they sent us a message after asking for money for each person!" She started her rant by saying she and her partner took a "bottle of good wine" as they would never go empty-handed to someone's dinner party. The woman said they enjoyed a "good meal," but were later hit with a message asking for money. "I thought this was crazy and I would never ask anyone to pay for their food if I invited them over," she continued. She then handed the mic to fellow Mumsnet users to ask whether her feeling "a bit annoyed" was justifiable. "That’s awful behaviour," one person chimed in, adding: "What is wrong with some people?!" "That’s incredibly rude," a second person wrote. "If they couldn’t afford to host then they should have asked everyone over and to bring a plate of food. Or say come over and we will get a takeaway but would everyone mind paying for their own share." They continued: "But to ask for money afterwards is just crazy." Another user suggested she should refuse to pay. "Send them a message back saying absolutely not," they wrote. "If you want to charge then you should say costs upfront so you can make an informed choice. Don't do the polite thing and pay up. This is how the f***ers get away with it." Women appalled after passenger changes baby’s nappy right next to her on flight
A woman sparked a debate online after venting her frustrations towards a mother who changed her baby's nappy right next to her during a flight. Taking to a Reddit thread, the plane passenger explained how she was travelling on a four-hour flight with a "screaming" baby who kept "getting all worked up at various points". She complained about the toddler, said to be around one or two years old, who was apparently "kicking the back of my seat, sticking his feet up on my armrest, and SH***ING his pants regularly." As if that wasn't enough for the passenger's patience, she then noted that the mother "changed his diaper THREE times, IN the seat". "Didn't bother taking him to the bathroom even though she was one row up from the very back of the plane, right near it. It stunk like hell," she continued. "Ffs, one lady even had a puppy on the plane and he made zero fuss. Perfect little angel. Maybe he had had a sedative, I don't know." The woman then brutally added that parents should "either sedate their damn kids" or not be allowed to bring them on "certain flights" altogether. It didn't take long for fellow Redditors to flood the thread with their own takes, with one siding with the furious passenger. One suggested changing a nappy is a potential "biohazard". They added: "I would 100 per cent would pay extra for childfree flights though parents would scream DISCRIMINATION and then sneak their kids onto the flight somehow I’m sure because 'everybody loves babies why wouldn’t you love my precious angel who shrieks the whole ten-hour flight?!'"
