Woman discovers wedding website of the man she's dating
Dating in the age of the internet can be a nightmare, with people finding out they are being cheated on via Facebook groups to being ghosted out of the blue for being a virgin. For one unlucky woman, it was through a Google search that she discovered the man she had been seeing for a month and a half was actually engaged to be married, after finding his wedding website with the details of his upcoming nuptials. TikToker Ellen Smith (@ellenelizsmith) went viral on the platform after revealing her ordeal after stumbling across the information about the man she was dating. In the video, Smith explained: “If you’re having a bad day, just remember that you could have accidentally found the wedding website of the man that you’ve been seeing for six weeks, on Google." Smith continued: “So, it could always be worse for you, not for me. Stay blessed.” @ellenelizsmith men are trash #zola #weddingfail #datingfail #theaudacity Judging by the comments, it seems that, unfortunately, hers is not a unique experience, as other women shared their stories of discovering their partner was a cheat. One person commented: “I found the wedding website of my then-husband while I was deployed.” “I was talking to a guy who told me he was going home for a wedding… it was HIS wedding,” another said. Someone else wrote: “I did that. Then sent them a gift from their registry.” Another admitted: “Ooof!! I was the fiancé who found his Craigslist ads for casual hookups with men.” The whole ordeal had some in the comments questioning the point of marriage, with one person saying, “I no longer believe in marriage…because men”. Bride divides internet after charging guests £2,000 to attend her wedding
A bride has annoyed people of the internet by charging guests £2,000 to attend her nuptials. Reportedly posting on Mumsnet, one of the guests claimed she had been invited to stay at a villa with the bride’s family and friends and was asked to split the cost for a week regardless of how long she could stay. She wrote: “The thought of spending a week socialising in a villa feels overwhelming, particularly when I don't know anyone and everyone else is in a couple, so I was going to stay only four nights.” So, she asked to share a room with another guest to cut costs but the bride didn't take it well. “She started crying and said she was upset because I have never been enthusiastic about her wedding plans (which is true, when she first asked for my villa deposit, I had asked a few times about other accommodation options),” she explained. After complaining, the bride reportedly refused to talk to her friend and the pair later ended up embroiled in a "heated discussion". The wedding guest was allegedly told: “It's clear the time/cost/venue etc. is asking too much of you and if it had been the other way round, it wouldn't have even crossed her mind to think about these things.” The woman's deposit was returned but she was still unsure about going to the wedding. She wrote: “She has always been quite selfish but I'm really upset by her lack of understanding as to why I don't want to spend a week with strangers and that I really did want to speak about the wedding. But at the same time, I know weddings are stressful and maybe she was trying to be sensitive. “Truth be told I'd rather go to a school friend's wedding on the same weekend who I feel like is a much better friend.” Responding to the situation, one commenter reportedly wrote: "The friendship is already over I'm afraid. I wouldn't go. I'm sorry." Another added: "It sounds like the friendship is going to survive much longer anyway." While a third said: "You shouldn't have to fund someone else's wedding." Man praised for doing 'everything right' when confronted by woman lost at night
A man has received widespread praise for doing "everything right" when he noticed a woman was lost at night. In a viral tweet by Evie Aspinall (@EvieAspinall_), she detailed how she was lost at nighttime as she tried to find her way to her hotel while on the phone with her boyfriend, and added in an updated tweet that Google Maps wasn't working. That's when a man offered to help after hearing about her problem, and it's what he did next that he was commended for. Instead of trying to engage in conversation with Evie, he told her to remain on the line with her boyfriend and walked a distance in front of her the whole way as he directed her back to her hotel. "A man overheard me on the phone to my boyfriend last night lost trying to find my hotel. He didn’t try and make small talk. He told me to stay on the phone," she tweeted. "And then he walked 2 feet in front of me, for a whole 10 minutes, so he could point out my hotel to me. "That’s how you do it. In what could have been a scary situation he did everything right." Evie concluded: "I felt so safe. Massive thank you to that man." Since then, Evie's tweet has gone on Twitter/X with over 13.4m views and 237,700 likes on the initial tweet, then 2.3m and 147,000 likes on the follow-up tweet. People on the social media platform have also applauded the man's actions for making Evie feel safe while guiding her to her destination and others also shared similar stories like this one. Beautician mortified over the 'worst false eyelashes she's ever seen'
A London-based lash technician has gone viral on TikTok after sharing the "worst case of dirty lashes" she's ever seen in her career. In the clip that's racked up over half a million views, the beautician (@ipsbeauty) shows a client's lashes that have built up with dirt and makeup over time, presumingly due to neglect and not taking full care of them. The footage horrified fellow TikTokers, who flocked to the clip to share their takes. "Looking at that made my eye itch," one person wrote, while another added: "All the money they spent on beautiful lashes and they don't take care of them? How?" A third wrote: "I simply cannot wrap my head around these videos. How do they NOT see all of that?" Meanwhile, one person noted: "At one point it almost looked like insect legs." @ipsbeauty I think this is the worst case ever! #lashartist #ipsbeauty #beauty #lashextensions #eyelashextensions #badlashes Individual false lashes require a lot of care and maintenance following an appointment. It is recommended to keep eyelashes clean by brushing them with a lash brush and washing them with a special lash cleaner or distilled water. It is also suggested to be mindful when wearing makeup and taking extra care as certain products can cause build-up. Healthline advises against picking eyelashes as you could damage your natural eyelashes and avoid curlers while wearing extensions. Lash extensions tend to last around 3-4 weeks before an infill or removal is needed. When taken care of, they are said to last around six weeks. Expert shares what happens to your body when ditching alcohol for Sober October
An expert has lifted the lid on what happens to your body when you take part in Sober October. Sober October is a movement dedicated to ditching alcohol for the entire month and is often tied to raising money for charity. In the UK, people donate to Macmillan Cancer Support to provide "much-needed physical, financial and emotional support to the millions of people living with cancer." In Australia, the month is known as 'Ocsober', with funds going to the Life Education Australia organisation. When taking part in the initiative, Drinkaware CEO Karen Tyrel says people are able to sleep much better and overall boosts moods. Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said skin will be glowing by the second week, leaving a brighter, healthier complexion. By the third week, people may have shifted a few pounds in weight. "A typical pint of lager contains the same number of calories as a slice of pizza, and a large glass of wine the same as an ice cream sundae," she told the outlet. "Therefore, not drinking makes it easier to maintain a healthy weight." The fourth and final week is said to reduce your risk of cancer and liver disease. It comes after a staggering 40 per cent of Gen Zers said they would consider giving up booze for good. Data from Voxburner’s UK Youth Trends Report recently found that 40 per cent of 18–24-year-olds would consider giving up alcohol completely, while 60 per cent said they would abstain from alcohol specifically for health and wellness reasons. This is widely discussed across TikTok, with many sharing their experiences of 'hangxiety,' putting them off alcohol for good. Man works 42 years at minimum wage and barely gets a farewell – but there's a happy ending
A company has been slammed for barely recognising more than four decades of service by one of its workers who was retiring – and his co-workers had to step in to save the day. An elderly American man John Bartlett worked in the warehouse of an unnamed firm for 42 years. But all he got for his service was a certificate and a sub-par barbeque, his coworkers claimed. Fortunately, they took matters into their own hands. Colleague Sonia shared a clip to social media of John, who is in his 70s, going into work on his last day. She felt his years of work had gone under appreciated. “Today is my co-worker’s last day. He worked for this company for 42 years making minimum wage,” Sonia wrote in the video. “The company only threw him a barbecue and gave him a certificate. He takes the bus and Bart (train) to get here every day on time. He’s 70+.” “He loves working here so much he didn’t want to retire—[He got] No bonus, just a barbecue and a certificate. Don’t be a slave to your job. Thank you John for your loyalty.” The video has now been deleted, but got hundreds of thousands of views and got thousands of comments from people on the internet who wanted to help John feel more valued. Sonia started a GoFundMe in response, saying on the page that he would make it to work “rain or shine” and that he was extremely dependable. He was “one of the most talented and hard-working” employees at the company, she added. “He has no wife or kids, however, he does have a nephew whom he loves dearly,” she wrote in the fundraiser. “It would be nice to give him some kind of company or something to do so he knows that he’s special and loved.” Since the GoFundMe was created, it has raised $68,178. Sonia plans to print out names and messages from John’s supporters. The money has already surpassed the retirement funds John had before. “Happy retirement John! Your hard work and dedication is a motivation to all of us,” one person said in their donation. “Happy retirement, John. You deserve more than what this company has offered you. Wish you all the best in your life and your future,” another said. “Dear John, Your story has really resonated with me. I hope you read all of the comments from well wishes and know that your contribution to the world has been seen. I hope you take pride in that knowledge because you absolutely deserve to. I am honored to contribute to your retirement.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman sparks debate over 'hotel safety tips'
A woman has gone viral on TikTok for showcasing a string of tips to 'keep yourself safe in hotels'. Some have praised her for sharing her lengthy routine, while others have called it overly cautious. In the clip that's racked up 14.1 million views, Victoria (@victorias.way) said she starts her holiday by putting the 'do not disturb' sign on the hotel door and locking it. She then uses tissue to cover the peephole, before putting a washcloth in the deadbolt loop "to close the gap." Victoria then makes use of the ironing board, by placing it behind the door and rolling a bath towel to put behind the handle to stop intruders. For "added security," Victoria adds a clothes hanger to the mix by connecting it to the door handle and deadbolt loop. @victorias.way Hotel safety tips #hoteltips #hoteltipsandtricks #hotelroom #hoteltip #hotellife #hoteltipps #hoteladvice #hoteltrick #hotel #safety #LifeHack #besafe #kidnappedinhotel #hotelsafetytips #hotelsafetyhacks #hotelsafe #hotelsafehack #selfdefense #learntofightathome #learntofight #viral #viralvideo #pageforyou #joeteti #dalecomstock #Unlock #unlockdoors #ducktape #fyp #foryou #xyzba #trending #trend #traveladvice #advice #traveltok #hostess The TikToker's clip was soon inundated with thousands of divisive comments, with some praising her methods and adding more to the list. Others called the steps a fire hazard, writing: "And now imagine trying to get out of that in the dark in a fire in the middle of the night." Another said they had "never stayed in hotels where I felt so unsafe," adding: "Is it an American thing? I am genuinely curious." New species of tarantula discovered with blue legs
Researchers have discovered a new species of tarantula lurking in mangrove swamps – and they have vibrant blue legs. The arachnid was discovered inhabiting hollow trees, in Phang-Nga, Thailand. They like to live in humid and wet conditions. Caused by its unique hair nanostructure, the spider omits an electric blue colour. “The difficulty of catching an electric-blue tarantula lies in the need to climb a tree and lure it out of a complex of hollows,” said researcher Dr Narin Chomphuphuang. “During our expedition, we walked in the evening and at night during low tide, managing to collect only two of them.” Blue is one of the rarest colours to appear in nature, absorbing very small amounts of energy to reflect the blue light. Creating an iridescent effect, the species is known as Chilobrachys Natanicharum, the Electric Blue Tarantula. This spider is one of the rarest tarantulas in the world, facing extinction due to the looming threat of deforestation of the mangrove forests. The researchers are thus campaigning for preservation efforts, hoping to save the newly discovered species. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman catches boyfriend 'cheating' on Google Maps
A woman discovered that her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best pal by using Google Street View. The unnamed lady randomly went on there after spotting one of the web giant’s cars passing her house. She says she was curious to know what route the vehicle took and decided to follow it online. The cars have taken snaps of every accessible road on the planet. They are used on Google Maps and Google Street View. At one point, the woman claims that she spotted her fella on a motorbike with another woman. She says: “The person on the back didn’t look like me so I followed them.” At certain points in the video, she apparently loses sight of her boyfriend’s motorcycle and had to search for him. She then recognises a side street he used to take her down. The woman explains: “He went down a street where he used to take me. “We always visited that little square. “At that point, I thought I was just being paranoid in my head, that it couldn't be him.” At the end of the video, a man is seen resting his head on a woman’s lap on a street bench. She claims the woman was her best friend. She says: “But it was my fella and my best friend. I'm devastated.” The video was shared on TikTok by Juliana Lima from Ceará, Brazil, where it went viral with 9.3 million views. One viewer commented: “Google saving lives.” Another joked: “I'm starting to think she was driving the Google car.” Someone else said: “It’s very unlucky for a guy to get caught by a Google car that passes once a year.” Maria wrote: “FBI no, Google Maps.” Paloma remarked: “My children's father didn't pay child support and he disappeared, so I found out where he was on Google Maps and I went there.” Someone else commented: “That Google Maps vehicle did not follow them. There's something wrong here. It gives street positions, but not with that precision.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Teacher highlights dangers of viral ‘Girl Dinner’ trend
A teacher in Queensland has spoken up about a disturbing rise in "eating disorder pacts" occurring amongst schoolchildren, fuelled partly by the viral TikTok trend of 'Girl Dinner'. The Courier Mail did an investigation into the rate of eating disorders amongst children and young people in Queensland, finding that between January and July this year, people aged between 0-19 were admitted with health complications related to an eating disorder 1,304 times. Speaking to the publication, one teacher explained that she had seen a rise in "diet clubs" at schools, where children encourage one another to take up or continue disordered eating behaviours. "We've never seen anything like it," she said. "I know of kids who were being admitted for eating disorder at six years of age, requiring tube feedings at the hospital because they didn't want to get fat. "We have girls pass out because they refuse to take their jumpers off because they don't like how their body looks in it and would rather feel unwell to the point of passing out at school. "Teachers know this is happening but they have no training in eating disorders. We know abuse, self-harm, and signs of neglect but not how to help kids develop a positive body image. It's not seen as a priority." The teacher also went on to say that the education curriculum needs to be changed as well because it's feeding into the idea of food morality - where certain foods are 'bad' and others are 'good'. "They're being told 'chocolate is bad it will make you fat'. It's brainwashing. "There's also a lunch box policy in primary schools, that don't allow junk food and kids who bring it are told they're naughty. "Then we wonder how these kids get eating disorders." Several experts have also said that social media trends such as 'girl dinner' and 'what I eat in a day' are harmful, especially to those trying to recover from an eating disorder. Due to these videos often containing body checking - where creators show their appearance - followed by the food they eat, often very small portions of 'healthy' and low calorie foods, essentially covertly telling viewers "eat like this to look like me." Clinical nutritionist Lexi Crouch, who struggled with her own eating disorder at age seven, told The Courier Mail: "There is a growing need for teachers to be properly educated and to include positive body image in the curriculum. "This is something I wish I personally experienced at a young age instead of being drawn into diet culture myself before making a full recovery from an eating disorder." Drake hits out at ‘weirdos’ making Millie Bobby Brown comments on Instagram
Drake hit back at "weirdos" on social media who reportedly made comments about Millie Bobby Brown under his posts. In the track 'Another Late Night', attention was soon turned to the Stranger Things actress, following a string of remarks online calling the pair's friendship odd due to the age difference. Bobby Brown has always spoken highly of Drake, calling him "a great friend and a great role model." In one part of the song, the rapper says: "My bank account is magnolia, Milly rockin', ayy, weirdos in my comments talkin' 'bout some Millie Bobby, look. "Bring them jokes up to the gang, we get to really flockin', or send a finger to your mama in some FedEx boxes." "Open up that s**t, it's jaw droppin', really shockin', ayy, I ain't pretty flacko, b***h, this s**t get really rocky, ayy." It comes after the 36-year-old said he will be taking a break from music following the release of For All The Dogs. On an episode of the SiriusXM series Table for One, Drake shared: "I probably won't make music for a little bit. "I'm going to be real with you. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost, and I'll talk about that soon enough. "Nothing crazy… I want people to be healthy in life, and I've been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach. I'm just saying what it is. "So, I need to focus on my health, and I need to get right, and I'm going to that. I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on. "So, I'm going to lock the door in the studio for a little bit. I don't even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or so, maybe a little longer." Lord Miles account claims YouTuber captured by Taliban is alive - but fans aren’t convinced
A social media account claiming to be run by YouTuber Lord Miles, who is in the custody of the Taliban, claims he is alive, but others are unconvinced. British YouTuber Miles made a name for himself travelling to dangerous places “for fun”. But his daring acts caught up with him in March 2023 when it is believed he was captured by the Taliban, becoming a “missing person” in Afghanistan. Since then, speculation has swirled about his well-being and location as an anonymous “friend” of Lord Miles has been updating his X/Twitter account. Various tweets from other sources have periodically claimed to have evidence that the YouTuber is actually “thriving” while living in a Taliban guesthouse. But, confusion has spread over the last few days as the friend posting on his behalf claimed that Miles’ Patreon account was suspended and that he had lost thousands of pounds worth of donations that had been sent from concerned fans. Some remain unconvinced that Miles is alive as photographs or proof of life have not been forthcoming. Others have suggested that he is dead and his so-called “friends” are using his status to “scam” people out of money. One person wrote: “Just admit he's dead and you are looting his finances. Some ‘friends’ you are.” Another said: “Either he’s the deadest anyone has ever been dead or this is a scam for the ages.” The person posting on Miles’ account wrote: “Give us around 2 weeks and you will have solid proof. We expect an apology when it comes however. You guys have no idea the stuff you're putting Miles through.” Internet personality Justin Whang also got involved in the discussion, claiming to know for sure that Miles is alive. He claimed: “I know this is the same s*** everyone says and nobody believes but Miles is alive and I can’t say how I know.” One person argued: “Honestly if he does end up being alive I’m not gonna feel that silly, you have done a comically bad job of running his account (+ Patreon never would’ve been suspended but for you). “I honestly thought he was more likely to be alive when he wasn’t tweeting than since you took over.” For now, the well-being of Lord Miles appears to remain a mystery.
